It is nice that Time Magazine has discovered the youth power of Sania of our city of Hyderabad to put on its Cover page. Is it worthwhile news-that Sania is featured on Time cover?.Again , that colonial mentality just refuses to go away. Merely being featured on the cover of a US weekly makes it to the front pages of local news here. Coming to Sania's achievements itself, all that can be said is that she is an upcoming player with some promise. But the hype is totally disproportional to actual results.The article mentions she beat several(?) top ten players at the US and Australian open.Pray , how many and who exactly? Leander and Mahesh Bhupathi have actually won several Slams, albeit in doubles and they have contibuted immensely to India's Davis Cup efforts, but they get much less press than Sania.And to put it in perspective-Maria Sharapova is only as olde as Sania, but already a grand slam winner and the current World No 1.
Surely Sania is riding international fame.Her laurels are getting world recognitions.In Sports too INDIA is performing.We Indians salute Sania & others who are bringing glory to our land.
