Well...

Nice article Madam! Nice time for publishing it.
Thanks for givning all the information abt. the other sports. i cld. notice that most of the results u gave are less than 2 weeks old. That explains why cricket is not being watched right now- right now only 4 out 11 international teams are playing the game rest are having an off season. Lets see how good ur article looks when the India SL WI series and the Ashes Series get going.
And as for the popularity of cricket going down, just have a look at how much money cricket generated for the welfare of the tsunami affected people.

Publicity Stunt
by Pramod Pillai on May 28, 2005 04:20 PM

The only objective such an article seems to have targeted to achieve would be to get lot of responses. The author's knowledge about cricket is highly questionnable. The only people who are really bothered about English football are the weekend beer drunkards of Europe and some Fillipinos. Tennis following in India and most of the world has dropped after the exit of Mac,Lendl,Edberg,Becker,Steffi, Martina,Evert, etc from the scene. Formula 1 and women's tennis is now popular in India due to Narain & Sania.

Overall a poorely researched article.

hi there

well the article gives an overall perspective of the games becoming popular in world. but the thing to taken in consideration is that the charm for cricket is still present not even in indian subcontinent but in obverall world.

Thatz only fair!
by Aravind Kumar Rajendran on May 28, 2005 03:30 PM

Deepti:

Yes, the opinion expressed is only fair. The interest is waning in this cricket-crazy country coz of letz say overexpsoure and maybe we are finding the Tendulkars' and Souravs' as human beings at last. And we expect real champions, who never ever fall into the human category like Pele or Federer. They show consistency and grace and in a limited period as their sport allows it; itz fine to watch a game when you were nothing-to-do country for five days, but today the time is little and you need fastfood games and not a large-meal that takes time to digest! Well said Deepti, i only wish your words fall on the ears of ICC to open their eyes! Aravind.

cricket
by anshuman sinha on May 28, 2005 03:21 PM

Cricket has survived a couple of centuries and will do so in future.

Talking of the other sports the author only seems to focus on the final of the event and not on the innumerous goalless laclustre draws that led to it

Infact a shifting of focus from cricket specially of the noisy picnicmongers who have littke understanding for the game might in fact be a boon to the cricket lovers over the world

unimaginative piece
by partha sarathy on May 28, 2005 02:55 PM

It is quite unimaginative on the part of the author to dismiss cricket in this fashion.

Cricket holds its charm due to the vagaries, twists, turns and what not. Many people do not like instant chewing gum type of games after certain point of time. Take football or basketball, they are typically boring with only one kind of play.

Nothing is more fascinating than the subtleties of criket, the changing momentums.

Cricket will always have an audience.
