Excellent show of Team Work by the '' so called '' underdogs.

Excellent bit of Teamwork and dedication shown by Greece to lift the Euro 2004. Many of us can learn a thing or a two from this highly dedicated and spirited team of individuals. No high flying names, no fancy individuals but yet so dedicated and determined to win the cup.
Indians ( especially our Hockey team should learn from this after getting all the support and sponsership). We always blame support and sponsership for the players no performing well in tournaments. But the reality is lack of determination and the politics that goes on in the game.

Anyways, Kudos to the Greece team and hope they ge many such laurels in future.

Cheers.

its amazing to watch the greeks to carry home the coveted trophy its a lesson to all those so called stars who are making more news off field than on field, that a team effort counts rather than individual glittering and fanfare.the korewans in last world cup nad the kenyias last cricket world cup has shown it.
Indian authority must cathch it up that world sports is up for grabs better management and determination can put us on any sports field.wish india will oneday be a under dog like this in any footbal race.

Well ....??

I just wonder if this was a build up to the big olympics? Troy (featuring the Greeks) was released worldwide, rank outsiders win the EURO 2004 .... I mean it wont be wrong to be smelling a rat out here.
Some people might say that in 83 even India were rank outsiders but, unlike Greece, we had won many international matches. These people hadn't won a match till date in a championship final.
We have seen gimmicks before in soccer, Brazil inexplicably losing to France in 1998 with the star players not getting a touch on the ball, etc. etc.

Greece win euro 2004

It is somewhat akin to India's Cricket world Cup victory in 1983 when as minnows they caused a major upset. This victory has again underlined the fact that team spirit and proper guidance can make a bunch of mediocres to upstage the worlds most fancied.

Deserving winners!!!
by Karthikeyan on Jul 05, 2004 10:06 AM

There cannot be any other which deserved the Euro more than the Greeks, they had a clear cut strategy going into the game, they give it all they had and they beat the so called best teams in Europe..
Way to go Greece!!!
Hope India does something like this someday

Team work
by Ganoba on Jul 05, 2004 07:29 AM

The victory of Greece in the Euro cup highlights the importance of working as a team against relying on individual stars. Teams that relied on stars; France, England, Italy and so on, who rewarded these stars exorbitantly to the cost of the team as a whole are bitting the dust.
It is time all of us, team managers, commentators and the public at large realise that discipline, submitting to a higher (team) goal, working to a plan are the key to success in team sport. Please tell me which is not a team sport; even chess is.
This is true not only for sport, but for all human endeavour.
Congratulation Greece for teaching us this lesson so beautifully.
