One should ask the author about how many excuses he makes in life
by Mithun on Aug 31, 2004 03:31 AM

The author of this article should be asked about the number of excuses that he makes in his life. It is disgusting that the only thing that he can do is deride the athletes. Now we can ask the author, why didn't he compete in the Olympics? His reason would be termed as an excuse going by his yardstick.

the worst indian performance
by subramanian padmanaban on Aug 31, 2004 03:07 AM

many echoed their voices on the great performance exhibited by the 78 athletesin athens, not forgetting they were representing the 120 cr population.By the next olympics, perhaps we may cross another 30 crores, which will be a great performance by indians in the world. Then we can send 60 more players, to have atleast some relevant percent to prove that we go to help others win the medals. It is really a commendable performance from some fighting men & women, but offering lame excuses after the events tells of their ineffiency only. Let them bravely accept defeat as the tennis duo.
Nothing is lost, we will get such events once in 4 years, and we can continue to participate. Our motto should be go for the games, witness it, go around tourist places and return home shame. No problems, the entire nation is prepared to accept your explanations and excuse.Even prepared to forgive and forget it. So,dear bros & sisters, defeat is part of our trip and we must strive hard for it.Set aside your bad feelings and look for what the govt is going to offer you for the exemplary display of your skill.Avail all facilities, incentives and you need not bring any credit to the country.Best of luck.

Great Indian Excuses.
by Harshtruth on Aug 31, 2004 01:42 AM

Govt. should stop budgeting crores of rs. for olympics players. There is no use of doing anything if you cannot produce results. And olympics results are medal count nothing else. We should learn from other countries like china, japan. They play to win, nothing else.
Just see the figures how much money Indian govt. is putting aside for this so called Olympics. Its unbelievable.

Did you write any article when any athlete was in hardship
by raj on Aug 31, 2004 12:55 AM

This is not the way to treat our sportsman. People govt don't give much support like other country and when they win they starts giving prizes money just to associate themneselves with their glory for example Rahod case but nobody and i think the author also done any articlw when there was hardship for the sportsman.

India's Excuses for Failure
by uday tate on Aug 31, 2004 12:45 AM

What can you expect from a country full of veggies, dhotiwalas, baniyas. These parasites have eaten away India's heart and soul. All these rats and mice do is to breed like flies, create garbage, urinate and defecate in public, cheat, tell lies, stab in the back, and sell out the country. Not an ounce of patriotism. What a nation. A nation of slaves.

GREAT INDIAN EXCUSES
by Julie on Aug 31, 2004 12:43 AM

Biswajyoti Biswas displays ignorance and ineptitude at an understanding of sport at this high level. The scathing attack on atheletes such as Anju Bobby George is disgusting. This article merits a formal apology from rediff.

We all are responsible !!
by Ankush on Aug 31, 2004 12:43 AM

Don't be surprised when I say that we all are responsible for this debacle. Tell me how many people pay real attention to the sports other than Cricket in India. Also did media ever wrote any article on the preparation about Olympics. Did they ever ask any sport minsitery jumbo jet officers what is going on. Did any industry comes forward to sponsor the athelete other than Cricket super stars? We are cricket crazy nation and in that also we are not that good. (recent performance shows that we are not that consistent). Even cuba (who may have less facility than what we can afford, still get lot of medals). Preparation start from early childhood not when something thinks he can do better when he goes to college. I think we should start preparation for 2012 onwards Olympics and not 2008. We can'd do any better than now.

Worthless, cry-baby, whining Indian athletes
by uday tate on Aug 31, 2004 12:38 AM

By now, it is well-known in the sporting world that Indians are champions in making up excuses. Maybe Olympics should have a special category for "Excuses for Failure." indians would definitely get a gold medal in thi proposed event. These cry-babies go to Olympics just to have fun, shopping, and simply fart around the village and nothing else. Maybe the money spent on these incompetent, useless athletes can be well-spent on improving infra-structure for sports in India. Shame on India for tolerating cry-babies.

India's dismal performance at the Athens
by Srinivas Balla on Aug 31, 2004 12:21 AM

It is indeed quite disheartening to fathom India's abysmal performance at the Athens depsite we being the second most populous nation of the world. The irony is that while the world might think that a population of 1 billion should be able to produce some medal winning atheletes, might just fail to realize that a huge population might serve as curse rather than a boon. The problem, if we think profoundly, stems right from our childhood, the way we are raised and the way our primary and secondary school promote sports as a way of life, forget parents w/ their never ending urges for their kids to be either a doctor or an engineer.
