Dhanraj deserves all the humiliation. He was an empty vessel making the most noise. he has never won a world cup or olympic. callin him a legend is a farce.......

Santosh, while the intial post is a bit extreme he does have a valid point. It does not matter how good you/world think you are if you ain't got a medal to show for it .

No doubt Dhanraj is a world class player but what has he won us. Nowt is the answer.

down with Gill and co.
by karthik on Aug 30, 2004 03:44 PM

I cant imagine someone of the stature of Pillay has been mis treated this way. I think its high time that the government takes the Indian hockey federation (rad KPS Gill) to task.

This is like Sachin tendulkar being the 12th man in his swansong.

Down with IHF.. down with KPS Gill

Bad Hockey
by captain on Aug 30, 2004 03:44 PM

Too late ... in the end, not withstanding the team management ... the team played bad hockey. Insipid trapping, slow to react, very poor passing & absolute inability to get penalty conrners. The match against Argentina - was perhaps the worst.

Sure, there are problems in the administration that need correction - but leave that aside ... what happened to your skill / ability?

Politics was present ... but skill, commitment & effectiveness was completely absent ...

that is the painful part of the story ... and Gagan Ajit singh said it very well.

The real highlights of the tour were ... the midfielders ... who played like demons - that saved us the blushes. Kudos to Vivek, Dilip, Ignace

Pillay's Post
by Sudarsan on Aug 30, 2004 03:19 PM

Reading Dhanraj's olympics experience has an eerie resemblence to the Irish Footbal Team. We all know what Roy Keane did and why he did it.

As a proud Indian I don't know how many more times I can stand to be humiliated like this. Goverment must make fundemental changes to our sporting infrastructure if it can't be bothered then stop sending athelets to any International tournaments.

Time to change the selection commitee!
by Neville on Aug 30, 2004 02:59 PM

we've changed coaches, players etc and this has not yieled positive results. I think its time we change the selection committee! The manner in which Dhanraj has been treated has angered hockey fans accross the country. Dhanraj will always be remembered as one of the greatest hockey players. Dhani, someday I can see you being the coach of Indian hockey and you surely will win your olympic medal as coach! Cheers!

Dhanraj's Farewell
by Anish on Aug 30, 2004 02:03 PM

The turn of events during Dhanrajs farewell match are really dismal .It demonstrate the discriminatory behavior of the team management. Cant we keep such behavior out of sports .

Looking into the background of the officials occupying the high echelons of Indian Hockey federation it is not at all surprising..

It is high time for government to realize that the need of the hour is to appoint determined and dedicated professional ( which India have plenty ) who not only appreciate the game but also theee involvement is above personal prejudices and nepotism.

Sad Ending of a Hero
by UMESH KALHANS on Aug 30, 2004 01:19 PM

Our coaches are all stupid and nothing shocking in this whole episode. But these coaches should not be spared for such drastic blunders they must be punished !!!!!!!!

Dhanraj Pillay and Indian Hockey Team
by Jayashanker on Aug 30, 2004 01:00 PM

Dhanraj, you are a great player but only a individual player and not a Team player. If there was a Singles Hockey you might have won Gold but sad this is a Team event and you dont have a place here.

I think you should have given training on Attitude and behaviour.

Look at the Australians, Dutch and learn from them instead of wasting your time in fighting and boast-off. You will gain automatic respect from that.

The same should go to the Indian Hockey Officials also, and especially to the ineffective, worthless KPS Gill.

Indian Hockey
by Sriram Viswanathan on Aug 30, 2004 12:50 PM

Indian Hockey really needs a revamp and the first step is to have the IHF president out of the federation. He seems to have done more damage than anything constructive.

Our officials always end up passing the buck to all others when the going is tough and ready to accept accolodes when the going is good. Its really sad to see that a player like Dhanraj Pillay being meted treatment which is totally unfair..
