INDIA athletes getting too much attention
by harsh kothari on Aug 29, 2004 03:02 AM  | Hide replies

Hello,
I am Harsh and I have lived in Ethiopia all my life. I have figured that although Ethiopia is a way smaller country than INDIA, its getting more medals. A team of not more than 20 had gone to Athens frm here and they have already won 6 medals. We Indians took a team of seventy and only got one medal and that too silver. In Ethiopia the people who win dont have as much publicity as we get here for even 6th placers. I feel that we are making our sports people to fly in the air. after last olymics i asked Haile Gebre Selassie for an autograph (wen he was world champ) he smilingly and humbly gave me one. he is probably a more superior athlete in all ways than the INDIAN ones unfortunately nd even then he has lower publicity than an INDIAN who came 8th in olympics. I personaly feel tat we should not make our athletes too proud of themselves, we should encourage them and make them work harder for the gold cuz we INDIANS deserve it but we're not getting because we're just pampering our athletes. Imagine if u pampar our soldiers, we'll be colonized again. We are already colonized but in sports, we need a strong rule in sports. Please get ure athletes to work hard for next olympics.

Very well said dude.
I feel that Indian sportsmen even though they are useless in world class arena boast and pomp in their talk. They give excuses as though only they were treated badly of all the others. Once they become famous they loose their head. Untill and unless this ideology changes, India will never produce winners and more consistent ones.

biased comments

Its sad that the comments from Usha r so biased in favour of anju. No doubt she has done the country proud but i feeel the womens relay team deserve special mention. They did not even get the kind of support and attention which anju received. I'm not taking anything away from anju but Usha could have been more generous in praise of the relay team. They also broke the NR afetr all and hence matched Anju's performance.
