Olympic blues

I am not surprised at the results.
In a country where the olympic torch beares are Bipasha Basu, Aamir Khan and Aishwarya Ray what else can you expect.
I wish there was an olympic event for pelvic gyrations maybe then we stand a chance.

Indian Performance
by pragr on Aug 24, 2004 07:24 AM

I think Indian sportpersons need the right guidance to make them feel that they are very much the part of competition. We are very much poorly equipped in terms of our mental strength which is the key to winning. We can do better next time if we start preparing now itself. Way to go ... its not the end yet.

Shoba made us proud:PT Usha

The Govt of India and the Olympic Committee must honour all the athletes who tried their best to win any medal but could not do so because of stiff competition. The Govt must also fix a sizeable budget to train the future athletes and even the Indian Corporate World might even come to their rescue.

Stupid

Is this some stupid personal column to show the readers that India performed well in Olympics? Except Major Rathod, nobody even deserves to participate. Such pathetic performances. Major Rathod proved that all that requires is perseverence, confidence and hardwork.
Look at countries like China, Russia, even Cuba. The way they play. What the hell is problem with you.

I wholeheartedly agree ..!
by Vivek Menon on Aug 24, 2004 03:02 AM

Dear Usha,
I wholeheartedly agree that its the IOC officials and the govenment authorities who should take the blame for India's poor performance rather than the atheletes.I totally agree that our athletes are not supremely talented but the way there are treated is absolutely inexplicable. There is no proper guidance or nurturing of young and upcoming athletes. There also seem to be cases where the IOC has skewed trial results so that the some atheletes can qualify for the olymipics. Not only the coaches but also certain athletes like K.Malleswari,Bahadur Singh,Anil and Anjali Ved Bhagwat need to explain their performance at the games. But everything is not lost for India...we can take heart from Maj Rathore's, Lee-Hesh's,J.J Shobha's and Binu's performance.I would like to particularly applaud Shobha's performance for her indomitable fighting spirit.Like every Indian I am also praying for Anju Bobby Geogre to do well and give a much needed boost to Indian athletics.

Regards,
Vivek Menon.
