Fine victory by the India
by Rohit on Jun 09, 2003 11:06 AM

The game of Bat and Ball seems to be the flavour of the decade, but its the stick that has time and again brought glory to the country. The disciplined, media shy, and hard-working players of our Indian Hockey squad yet again proved it in Australia, when the beat the Australians 5-3 on their very own home turf to emerge worthy victors amongst the other two formidable opponents, Pakistan, and Australia.
Dhanraj Pillay prooving once again why he is considered the most deadly players to be weilding the crooked stick. A magician who was once again instrumental for 3 of the 5 goals scored at the finals. The infusion of fresh blood...Gagan, has also reiterated the fact that it is imperative to instill the love for the dying sport.
Hats off to the Indian Hocket Team. You've made all of us proud.

Indian Hockey not given its due recognisition.
by Prashanth on Jun 09, 2003 10:51 AM

It's such a big shame that when our hockey team is doing so good, and its so encouraging for the Indian Hockey, this victory doesn't get its due recognisition.

As an Indian I don't care if some Ferrero wins a French Open or some Williams wins a Wimbledon. Ofcourse I like to follow French Open, but my interest would last as long as some Indian wins his/her match. And definitely not at the cost of a rare Indian Hockey team victory like this. You provide slide shows of French Open daily, it always finds the top of the page, and our Hockey victory gets a step motherly treatment?!?!?

I see a headline saying that "SL beats WI by 4 wickets" on the Homepage!!! This was too much!! What about the Hockey victory?!?!?! Come on, grow up. Indian media has always been very immature. And Refiff.com has proved its no different.

This performance of Indian Hockey should be celebrated and widely covered. Our Hockey players should be projected as heros. Indian Hockey should get a boost, a philip. And this should start from the media. Indian media has got a responsibility towards Indian Sport. Atleast watch others and learn.

Thats great news for all the hockey fans in India. Its great to see Indians playing the way they are capable of. And above all they are playing the game in their natural style of 5-3-2-1 and winning. This is going to do good to the Indian team for the forth coming champions league and Athens olympics. We are waiting for the glorious days of Indian hockey to return. May god help all the players.

Great Win
by Shri on Jun 08, 2003 10:55 PM

Great Win, guys!
I love cricket but I feel hockey should be given equal importance. We have the potential to win in hockey and I hope the sponsors come forward to lift the level of the game in India.

great job guys! keep itup!
Indians have proved that "if the sun sets, it will rise again."
time has come that TV channels should show good hockey rather than nonsense cricket.

Well done boys! The whole nation is proud of you. We couldn't beat the Aussies in cricket...but we did in hockey. Sports administators wake up.....forget cricket and concentrate on hockey.

Good performance
by shashi on Jun 08, 2003 09:45 PM

It has indeed been a wonderful perofrmance by the Indian Hockey Team. However in the past,we have failed to carry over the excellent forms shown in the preparatory tournaments like this to the majot events like the olympics ans world cup.the coached and players should ensure that we have a good bench strength-players like sandeep michael for instance- and also to peak on time for the inportant matches.

Hockey: India bt Aus in triangular event
by Atul on Jun 08, 2003 07:55 PM

The title of the report is incorrect. It was not
a triangular event but a 4-teams tournament. However,
you can call it as a three-nation tournament because
two of the four teams were from Australia.
