The inflation rate in India between 1980 and today has been 1,729.62%, which translates into a total increase of $1,729.62. This means that 100 rupees in 1980 are equivalent to 1,829.62 rupees in 2018. In other words, the purchasing power of $100 in 1980 equals $1,829.62 today. The average annual inflation rate has been 7.74%.
It is quite clear that Padma Bhushan Shekhar Gupta is having fun at the expense of the politicians.
The question is simple. If he knew about any corrupt deals, will he be bold enough to pursue the truth as a journalist? Or would he make adjustments and prefer a Padma Vibhushan instead?
The fact does remain that the media with very few exceptions, has been always compromised. Those who do ask questions, are making a calculated gamble to be on one side, or get nudged out. Those who pursue truth are branded insane or driven to be insanity.
V P Singh, according to a person that I had met, had a psychiatric problem. By his looks he didn't appear to be one, with any sense of humor. He might have cracked desi jokes written by someone for him. More likely than not, the opposition must have supplied him the ammunition.
Amazing to see the number of people with half baked knowledge posting in Rediff columns. Utterly presumptive and biased article. These journalists have lost their conscience as well as their souls. We all know what V P Singh did to this country. For all his campaign against corruption he after all had to lean on other corrupt leaders. We definitely will not want to risk another V P Singh.
Bofors gun proved its worth in Kargil in 1999. The author should know this. Rajiv was hounded for a paltry 64 crores for this gun but what about the current dispensation which has swallowed more than 20000 crores on this deal?

Hmn, I guess you must be one of those deeply affected by demonetization because 64 crores of direct bribe is paltry for you! Great. And are you also a journalist. Because you seem to compare apples and oranges and draw conclusions. How can you compare the 20000 crore contract value to 64 crores of direct bribe?
