M. J. AKBAR WAS ONCE KNOWN AS OUTSPOKEN JOURNALIST.
by Debasish Mukherjee on Oct 11, 2018 07:58 PM  | Hide replies

I had on several ocassions interacted with Mr.M.J.AKBAR on several contemporary Socio-political and economic scenerio in the country during his editorship with The Telegraph in Kolkata and became an admirer of Mr.M.J. being a fearless and outspoken Journalist of the country. Mr.M.J.Akbar certainly posseses the quality of a true journalist and in eastern India he was unparallel. Kolkata did not have such a stalwart journalist after the death of Mr.C.R.Irani,Chief Editor of The Statesman. As such allegations of moral deranges against Mr.Akbar by some women Journalists seems to be a conspiracy by some vested groups. I strongly condemn this type of attempt of ugly character assassination of a outspoken Journalist as Mr.M.J.Akbar is.

At the same time, you can write it off. People of who are gentle and outspoken need not necessarily be good all the times.

While agreeing with you on Mr Akbar's professional worth, I want to say that it is no way connected with his attitude towards women. Even the best of gentlemen COULD be quite wicked when they think of women.

In any case, he should resign to maintain his and BJP's dignity, in my view.

Well said. However big fan one may be of his professional knowledge and conviction, these many allegations make his position untenable for sure.
There is obviously no way of judging the veracity of the claims- so obviously he wont be legally prosecuted and can thus be back at an opportune time.

Anand, why he should resign in first place only on the basis of some allegations be someone who has no guts to undergo any legal process ? How one can take any statements of such so called victims on face value who were sleeping for years ? Till the time they got benefits working under Akbar they were very hap[py and now suddenly after number of years they have all the allegations against him without any evidence to substantiate any of their allegations. Why no one has come forward with a complaint of recent incidents ?

have we elected in 2014? BJP MLAs on rape charges flash smiles (kuldeep senger) knowing fully well noting can happen to him and this fellow Akbar seems seems secure in this Modi's cabinet even as the 'Chowkidar', is busy sending some more Modi's , Mallyas, Choksi's abroad with the savings of Common Indians.

Why the #metoomovement that started in america after harvey weinstein assault and exploiting women has become rage in India. Ours socio-economic conditions, work culture and human development index is on par or even worst than some of the poorest african countries. India was recently rated as the most dangerous country for a girl child to be born. Dowry, female infanticide, caste discrimination, feudalism, modern slavery and rapes are much more serious threats than providing safe working conditions to women. Unless India become a modern industrial country or walking the path like China did towards becoming modern industrial giant, we will never be able to provide the platform in the first place and taking this issues to a new height will derail the real issues plaguing the country which is massive poverty, hunger, massive large scale corruption, neglecting healthcare. To provide first world working environment and standards and governance, we need to become first world country. It is only then, we can provide the platform. Instead we must find what is stopping India to rapidly modernize? It is India's political structure, caste based civil system that creates trillions of losses to government sector inviting more crony capitalism.

Alas 99.1 % Indians are not intelligent to realize it and American wannabe Indian urban liberals who are frogs in their well who live in their shell who imagine India to function like USA are delusional with reality.
