Status quo should be restored immediately.Please do not create a civilian vs defense situation as is being done in other spheres.I hope good sense prevails on those in governance today. Why only Cantts need to be guarded? Why not civilian defence installations? They are not defence assets? They are not contributing to cause of National Defence?
Some hardcore Congressees are there everywhere. Bogus. Since the Congress has taken some agenda like Paralyze the Parliament, Sabotage the Government through hardcore Congressee in the system, Create and Fanning unrest. Rediff news is a news channel which sees all negative in this BJP government and found all the qualities in Rahul Gandhi. Rediff just finds all the problems now, during the decades everything was fine and everything will be fine if Rahul Gandhi becomes the king of India.This shows the status of this type of news channel.
The Brigadier in his initial lines seems to imply that civilians who live in our crowded towns like DEhra Dun are a lower category of life than those who live in the Cantonments.Has he even compared the population desnity in a town and in a Cantonment ? Has he even thought about how tight is funding for our towns compared to the privileged defence forces ? The Army does a great job by keeping the environment green in the Cantonments , but is this only for the exclusive few to enjoy ? Regarding access by civilian traffic, this has been the practice for ages and very few have caused trouble in such areas. MOreover the MInister has left it open to the Cantt Boards to follow due process and close any roads that need to be secured. The Brigadier also gives bogus objections like the village wives of Armymen being overwhelmed by the traffic. Today in India every villager has mobiles and is used to seeing automobiles everywhere. The entire piece reeks of exclusivity and the old spirit of colonialism.

The problem is not who is superior citizen. Army personnel must be protected against transgressor. If we fail to respect our own army, enemy will teach us this, with very very bitter way.

The cantonment must be cantonment.In a public Ltd. it used to be demand that Scooter parking Place must be the same and open for both officers and workers.Well.it was not acceded to.Once there was a labour related problem.Workers were not attending duty.There were two gates one was for officers,- vehicles gate.As I came out during Lunch time riding my scooter one stone came and hit my Helmet.Thanks to helmet,I am writing this today.The cantonment must be cantonment.If the Public wants let the Govt. spend for it.Recover money for that from the bankers who had openly said that they were not ready to take risks of evaluating loan .Compare that with the risks other people take.R.Ponnambalam
