This Avik Saha was asked regarding political mileage he said 60% population are farmers and what if farmers play politics, on a TV channel. He is a communist supporter. Just like the Mumbai March he is collecting money from farmers as funds and doing nothing. They pay the farmers for milk per liters and ask them to throw on streets before the camera. Farmers put 60 percent water in that milk and get lots of money for milk at market rate from these farm leaders/political leaders. The truth is farmers who produce grains and vegetables are little on the down side. Onions are the most cheapest. On one acre 25 tons of onion is grown with total expenses of 50000. So the production cost of onions is around rs 2 per kg. They sell at Rs 10 at whole sate rate. The whole saler sells at Rs 15 to retailer and the retailer sells to public at Rs 20 per kg. Direct Farmer to Customer is sold at Rs 15. As soon as Farmer gets money he starts drinking and gambling and comes home thinking of loan waiver. The farmer leader comes to this anti-Indian and gives interviews

Being looked at the darker side or negative side of very few farmers, as if all others as well as politicians, especially the parties which are ruling the govt are ONLY sincere and good.
But....it needs an aware and alert common populace and an even more well aware and alert (as well as combative) farming community to put parasitic middlemen and their political and bureaucratic handlers in their places and make co-operatives a success !
Which is why farmers in the rest of India dont generally have successful co-operatives and farm suicides are extremely low in Kerala !
Govt should ask the farmers to start co-op marketing and also community farming which will help to address the farming issues as a group. they should be given assistance in the way like for marketing of their produce in nearby towns and cities directly by the farmers rather than the middlemen. Farmers should have good logistical support with storage facilities when there are bumper production of a crop. All the private retail marketeers like Big Bazaar, Star bazaar, Super markets, hoteliers etc should ahve tie up with the farmer co-operatives and stable prices all year along. This will help small and big farmer groups not to have wastages and throwing them on roads for no minimum price. The govt should try to do away with the middlemen concept in most of the veggie, fruits, grains and pulses. this will bring down the prices as well as benefits to the farmers and consumers.

In Tamilnadu: Over 20 years - have UZHAVAR SANTHAI, means PEASANTS MARKET - have about 150 such markets in all big towns and city - The peasants could transport their products FREE daily (early morning)thru Govt Buses and sell their products in the markets being controlled by Govt authorities. Every such market is having a cold storage too.
