Mountain out of molehill

This is not a data breach -
**I will tell readers that your phone number, your birth of date, your parent's name, your address, your photographs, I have everything with me.**

If this is all you were able to obtain, then this is not a data breach. Anyone who has access to passport office data, ration card databases, voter list and national population register already has all these details.

Except for photograph and parents' names, even those who have access to Income tax records, sales/gst tax records, PAN card records, etc will have access to this information.

It is a data breach only if the retina scan and fingerprint data is publicly available.

These people happily give biometric recognition while applying for passport. Why do not they raise objection while giving personal details while applying passport, ration card, mobile connection, visa and so on.

trust on government claim is lost
by Ahi Sen on Jan 09, 2018 02:23 PM

The Government's claim that confidentiality of personal data in Aadhar card is safe in the hands of UDAI proved to be false. Is is a cognizable offence to give false assurance may be examined and people with knowledge on law position may try the authorities for their untrustworthy assurance to publick.

Sack UIDAI chairman..current and former !
by Bharat Kumar on Jan 09, 2018 01:25 PM  | Hide replies

The current chairman of UIDAI has to be sacked pronto and the former chairman Mr RS Sharma who is also the current chairman of TRAI has to be sacked too.

How does one know that the door wasn't left open on purpose? So that marketers can harvest data, make money and pay kickbacks ?! UIDAI has to prove its credentials.

Nandan Nilekani's views on getting through bureaucratic hurdles are disturbing, but he doesn't speak a word when a bureaucrat is appointed the Chairman of UIDAI! Why? Govt contracts and futures for Infosys?

It is shocking and a criminal act of negligence that biometrics were not used to access Aadhaar data. Why? The explanation given is that the operations take longer !

Trying to run Aadhar identification on the current network infrastructure is like trying to get a plane to take off from a potholed road. And if it doesn't, people will start unloading redundant and fail safe systems ! How different is the current Aadhaar operation?

So long as you get bureaucrats and tenured sarkari fellows to run our systems, we will keep muddling along. One of these days they will try and pass it on to a major IT services bodyshop who will mess it up like they did with GST, while the founders and managers quibbling on salaries !

It is very Shameful News to hear that our data is not in safe Hand. Government should take strict action against it. They should suspend who ever there in this kand. How can sell our data who have given authority to sell our data. If government is not taking any action on system where leakage is there. And unable to find & rectify it, that's mean somewhere our Indian Government Failed in this huge poject.
At end i will like to Thanks & give support to Hard Working Reporters like Ms.Rachna Khaira.

Arrest the UIDAI chief and jail him with no bail
by Raghavendra Bhat on Jan 09, 2018 12:23 PM

Can the police take back the FIR against the journalist and arrest the head of the UIDAI? The Chief of the UIDAI has endangered the privacy of Indian citizens by wilful negligence due to leaking of private data, this breach of data happened during his watch. Use of insecure, non-free computing software has made the Aadhaar infrastructure crackable, the responsibility lies squarely at the door of the UID Authority.
