Defence budget is being escalated each year
by Manoranjan Chowhan on Feb 08, 2018 11:02 AM

Yes defence budget allocation is one issue but the people's will power is also important. Our political leaders are short sighted some leaders like Opposition and Kejriwal want proof of surgical strike and bent upon demoralizing the forces let them stop shouting that itself will be great service to Nation.Despite low budget our forces are capable of meeting any outside threat only thing needed is let's not demoralize force (our opposition must not oppose ruling party for its self interest and let it participate in nation building rather than only criticism).

Our space program is also having a fraction of the budget compared to NASA. Still, we are competitive. We can achieve the same in defence also. We need to enhance indegenous capabilities.

Kick backs are every where.
by Ashim Ghosh on Feb 07, 2018 03:51 AM  | Hide replies

In general Indians in power do not want to develop own technology. Whether it is defence related equipment or any other item. This class tries to achieve exclusivity by acquiring higher status with the help of Kick-back money. Items may be anything ranging from aircraft to crude oil & natural gas.

We can't be. With a much smaller economy and far weaker finances than China we can not afford a defense budget to mach China. Only solution is not have a war and the reason we have nuclear weapons is to deter war and war is extremely unlikely considering consequences unless some political leaders loose their sense.

Needless panic
by Sudarshan Nityananda on Feb 06, 2018 09:18 PM  | Hide replies

BRig Chaterji has said "Rafael would take five to six years, if not more, to fulfil the whole order. By then the technology will be outdated. A new generation of anti-tank missiles will be in use and we will be left with obsolete equipment." Rafale is a most modern aircraft and such products are meant to be in service for 25 years at least with upgrades / refits. How can they then be outdated in 5-6 years ? Some of our experts should stop pressing needless panic buttons and avoid getting laymen into a nervous frame of mind.

Barking up the wrong tree. The reference is to the Rafael, the Israeli anti-tank 'Spike'missile, not the Rafale, the French fighter. Some of our laymen should read carefully before dashing off criticism of experts!

The lives are cheap for every govt. What matters is how much we must appease a particular caste or religion to win the elections? How much the opposition appeasing? If I appease less, the opposition will win. This govt is no different in terms of what it has created for the common man. It is killing all the small businesses, self-employment firms, services, etc, by its policy of digital India, where only the people Ambani, Adani are the beneficiaries, becuase it is they who get the market if all the small shops and business are shutting down, becuase they have all hte apps. I think a time has begun now where a rift in society has started and the income gaps have been stretched too far by this govt, with the pay commission, etc.
