Dumb Decision
by VARUN on Oct 16, 2017 03:23 PM

Private and public transport, Aviation industry, chemical, cosmetic, fashion industries and many more cause pollution all through the year but no body does anything.
Reason is simple - the industry/lobby is too big for these decision makers. They would never ban anything there.
Besides, Diwali is a Hindu festival and they are the easiest targets.
If you have guts show it to me-
Ban sales and use of all pollution causing vehicles with immediate effect -
If not, allow the fireworks manufacturers to produces fireworks with reduced pollutants as you have allowed the vehicle manufacturers. Allow them a time limit to comply so that they could do so over a period of time.
This abrupt ban is bad in law and is against the principles of natural justice.

need of ban on firecrackers
by Narendra Gupta on Oct 16, 2017 02:40 PM  | Hide replies

The production/burning of fireworks/firecrackers need to be banned completely for the following reasons
1.      Compared to carbonaceous pollution from industrial emissions, automobile exhaust and burning of agricultural waste, the pollution arising from fireworks is different, un-controlled, and more hazardous.
2.      A range of metals and their compounds are added during fireworks manufacture, such as: arsenic, manganese, sodium oxalate, aluminium, iron dust powder, potassium perchlorate, strontium nitrate and barium nitrate etc., which act as stabilizers, binders, oxidizers, or add different colours to the fireworks. The burning of fireworks releases gases, such as SO2, CO2, CO and NOx etc, besides a thick carbonaceous suit and a large amount of particulate matter (PM). These emissions, particularly suspended PM, are very hazardous for a person who gets exposed to thick fumes. The exposure may cause respiratory tract infections, asthma, pulmonary disease (COPD), allergic rhinitis, and even lung cancers. Pregnant women, children and senior citizens are most vulnerable. The polluted air causes eye related ailments also.
3.      Very high levels of noise produced during the fireworks (up to 140 dB) can damage hearing and cause sleep disturbance. Bursting crackers are traumatic to pets.
4.      Fatalities and property loss occur frequently due to the firework-related accidents.
5.      Being lighter than air, the poisonous gases and small dust particles produced on bursting of fireworks accumulat

British rule was golden era in Indian History!
by MISSIONARY on Oct 16, 2017 01:44 PM

British rule was golden era in Indian History!

1. British unified over 550 princely states into a single entity.
2. They ended Moslem domination in India and liberated Hinddus from 1000-year long subjugation that eventually led to the rise of Hinddu intellectual class who could eventually fight for the freedom of India.
3. British rule prevented India from becoming a BarbaricIslamicState by ending forced conversions to Izzlam.
4. British built excellent dams, bridges, railways, roads, etc which unheard in the rest of Asia (during 19th century).
5. British opened many universities and colleges in India, which helped Hinddus to rise as an intellectual class.
6. British introduced English helped India to become a software superpower in the world today.
7. British rule considerably weakened the barbaric caste-system, even though remnants of the system remain. Even superstitions decreased to a great extent.
8. Due to better medical services, death rate dropped and life-span increased.
9. Railways, postal services, modern education, English medicine, etc rapidly improved the standards and quality of life.
10. It is a myth spread by deceivers that Indian economy was 27% of world economy is 1700. India was much poorer at that time.
11. HHindus were living under complete subjugation of Mozlems. British rule gave great religious freedom to HHindus
12. British rule altogether gave a new direction to Indians who were mired in ignorance, superstitions, caste-barbarity & opened new

Ban on crackers
by Vijay Sahani on Oct 16, 2017 01:38 PM  | Hide replies

Burning crackers by public should be banned all over India.

If necessary, some places can be designated where fireworks may be allowed by designated bodies under strict supervision by government. Such places could be Marine drive (Wankhede stadium), Juhu in Mumbai. In Delhi it could be Ramlila ground, Red Fort, Pragati Maidan, etc. in Delhi. In Bangalore, it could be Freedom park, In Chadigarh Rose Garden. In Mysore, Amba Vilas Palace, etc.

People who want to enjoy the fireworks can visit those places and celebrate the festival there.

I think this would be an acceptable compromise.

It's from Mysore (I remember seeing the fireworks once when we visited Mysore on Dushera) and Sydney that I got the idea. In Sydney they burst fireworks on Sydney Harbour. People can't burst crackers. It's banned since 1980 except in NT and Tasmania. However, a firework show is held at Sydney harbour every year. We should follow this model.
