Tying Kashmiri man to a jeep was the right step taken by the General. Infact all the Kashmiris who pelt stones at the army should be tied to the jeeps with their heads hitting the ground. It is only then that they will realize their mistake of playing into the hands of Pakistan. No one has prevented them from settling in Pakistan. Indian army helped them during floods by rescuing in army boats & helicopters but they are ungrateful to the kindness of the army so the persons pelting stones at the army or indulging in terrorist activity should be treated in a tough manner as per the pinciple of " An Eye For an eye & Tooth For a Tooth " practised by Hammurabi a king in Egypt thousands of years ago. from Ramchandra Karve

Better option for Major Gogoi would have been to order firing on stone pelters and win rewards and appreciation rather than saving those stone pelters and facing probe.

major number of these poor stone pelters are poor people who dont know the reason for doing this act, for them it is the money paid by the seperatists to create this uncertainity . The seperatists should be immediately removed of all the perks and security cover with the poor tax payers money. The opposition like sitaram kesari/raja etc survive on theses acts, but the people of India have awakened and can judge from good and bad. Jai Hind
How different is tying a man in front of a van, different from holding a human hostage? The mindset is disturbingly of an aim of scaring, if not terrorizing the opponent.
NO, we can't accept such behaviour. The civil society, even within Kashmir would have condoned firing in self-defence with an aim to kill or impair or main people, but NO, tying a man as a bait is not civil, nor according to any code of ethic of combat.
It is even more unfortunate that the authorities justify that any means, termed as innovations, justify the end objectives
Either he should not have tweeted the picture or it could have been more balanced in view of Army’s difficult role, appealing to local people not to indulge in such anti-Army acts of stone pelting , militancy etc. to create more conducive environment so that Army could be withdrawn from the civilian areas and sent to the borders/LOC to fight the infiltrators and enemy. When will the mainstream parties like NC,PDP… and other elected representatives realize that unless they lead the Kashmiri people into bringing conducive environment there Army cannot be withdrawn and as long as Army and AFSPA continue in civilian areas these unfortunate incidents will keep recurring given that is how any Army all over the world for that matter function and normalcy in K will remain a pipedream. Thus why don’t the Abdullas, the Muftis and all those other local politicians, journo etc. whom we see them on TV (name I do not know but I could see them constantly showing their teeth like that for a tooth paste ad) debates understand that blaming Army is not going to help. Rather for their own good they should help create conducive environment in K so that army can be withdrawn from civilian areas and sent out to the borders. Take it from me as long as Army stays inside in civilian areas these problems will continue.

Have you gone insane? In a democratic , secular country like India this act of Major Gogoi is simply barbaric & unpardonable. This whimsical, inhuman act(There was no proof that Mr. Darr took part in stone pelting activity) is also against Geneva convention should be condemned by every peace loving Indian because it infringes the basic fundamental right of an Indian.

Geneva or not, this crosses all the lines, justifies terror as a means to achieve ends. It is a different matter that abusing and scaring people has become mainstream in politics in the US and in India, ably aided by impotent and lawless social media.
I think we have had enough of the Major Gogoi incident on the social media and in the print media columns etc. Treating only the symptoms in the valley but not the actual malady there necessitating presence of Army and thus Major Gogoi there is the real problem. People must understand that Army have their own way of working and they don’t take orders from anyone. They are trained to kill and get killed and are supposed to be present only at the borders for making supreme sacrifice fighting the enemy. That is why presence of Army inside a state in civilian areas is the main problem and are bound to create such division’s that could recur again and again in spite of best restrains. It is unfortunate too that likes of Ramchandra Guha keeps talking irrationally about “reaching out” endlessly by Cong, BJP, centre etc. instead of pulling up the local K-mainstream politicians and parties like NC, PDP etc. not doing enough to lead K-people to integrate with rest of India over the last 7 decades !Shouldn’t he have pulled up Omar Abdulla too for such a divisive tweet ? Omar Abdullah whose family has ruled the state for over 5-6 decades certainly should know better before making the tweet of the picture decrying the Army which has virtually juxtaposed the Valley against the country virtually adding fuel to fire in the already explosive situation prevailing there. It is really ironical that the Abdullah family which should rather act as a

Clamping down and shutting the people, Hurriyat and anyone who wishes secession, was the right thing to do. The army, if deployed, should use the arms, not be left hanging in ambiguity and using 'innovations'.
