Let Educ. institutions have the right to educate its students
by R ponnabalam on Mar 13, 2017 08:52 PM

Rights and freedoms as legal concepts with inherent limitations is true for those who enact and to those who enjoy it.It is not only for those who enjoy it. Is A person's freedom ends where another man's freedom begins is absolute when it is said nothing is absolute. If a King or a Government imposes should the right ,correct freedom to act ,express and to choose end there for the citizen.Things become Herculean when we are dishonest to equality of rights.Emotional appeal educational difference etc are there to be considered. We as Indians have to come together as Indians or citizens of free India enjoying equal rights not allowing one to override everything saying that his freedom starts and so the other man’s freedom has to stop. All Ideas are not tame ;Right ideas radiate and express. Human rights such as the right to freedom of speech and expression might have been a privilege accorded to citizens of each nation based on their laws and Constitutions IN THE DISTANT PAST . Today it is we the people give the constitution to ourselves and so the laws and correct it as neededThey must flow from the law which is not absolute as law grows and as laws as had been made by men who have limitations get corrected when those laws are unjust .’ Practices which apply to one nation may not suit another’ is also not absolute. Let anybody have Liberal thinking in its purest form presenting an idealism that is aspirational, but don’t disturb educ

let the police and the judiciary handel
by Sumit Kudesia on Mar 08, 2017 10:27 AM

Your words mean nothing till there is a uniform civil code of law for both ' Hindu's ' and ' Muslims '. Anyway, whatever has happened should be sorted out by the police and the judiciary. The media should not highlight these matters and support the minority community to sustain their livelihood. This is because they seldom speak about the benefits doled out to the minorities to build a powerful vote bank.

what idea bjp, rss, abvp, vhp, bajrang dal, gau rakshaks etc are espousing and propogating India of a hindu rashtra, is the same what as what Trump is announcing as American first. The implementation of the idea from the host country is seen today. in India it began in 2014. Either listen and fall in line or go to pakistan cause you are anti national.

fREEDOM OF SPEECH
by Raghunandanan on Mar 07, 2017 01:00 PM

Freedom of speech does not mean that anyone can talk anything in public including the one insulting the nation. Those who think that way should be prepared for the action of others who have a different view. It is not a one-way traffic. There is no rule that speeches should be countered only by speeches. Nonsense Speeches can be countered by thrashes too.

Rights/Duties
by Umacharan Panigrahi on Mar 07, 2017 09:55 AM

Well presented.
Students'/universities freedom of speech not withstanding when the discussion is in public domain one needs to maintain restraint, what's all the rights about when slogans are shouted under media glare to destroy one's country, why expect country's constitution/law to protect those who reject the very idea of nation/constitution/laws?
Any public show of strength via demonstration must happen without causing minimum inconvenience/hurt to others what to speak of physical/mental/financial loss or injury; in such cases the causative agents must lose their rights/must face punishment under the law.
Why the student bodies can't for once have all their debate/discussion and speak to their heart's content inside halls/rooms, but once in the public domain one has to grant equal rights to others and obey the law.

A sensible piece of writing
by Amarendra Sinha on Mar 07, 2017 08:37 AM

After a long long time, some sensible writing has appeared on rediff. Nicely summed - "Freedom of speech and expression does not merit debate; it exists with conditions to regulate its use."

Do the majority electorate's view has any weightage or do the tax givers view. Are we giving tax to keep some escapists keep bragging non-sense in public places. What is meant by creativity-Destruction as per his thinking? Without Industries who would develop, the country to enable him avail freebies to do phd & fool the public. But because (common public) some guinea pigs are there such fellows survives. People started realising mistakes due to better awareness and education that communism has shrunk to Tripura and a hide and seek in Kerala. Public knows which party is growing and which is sinking.

Well, the first duty is not to steal public wealth !

And by that measure, the worst anti nationals are Gautam Adani, Ambanis, Mittals, Agarwal, etc !

The next line of anti nationals are political parties such as the BJP and the Congress, which allow and even encourage the worst anti nationals to steal public wealth in lakhs of crores of rupees and take a good cut to run expensive election campaigns !

Komaaali, it is better to live lower middle class lives than destroy the environment in the name of development (as Adani has been doing to the Mundra coast for more than 200 km - NGT observation) !

Fundamental Rights

No doubt in democracy freedom of speech& writing are there but with a rider that you got no right to allege/abuse others in vulgar/unparliamentary language.whatever you want to say against even political powers/authorities instead taking direct names ,it could be wisely indicated indirectly from the description of facts public could get an indication of the personality and you could express freely without hurting .

Even moderators of online platforms also may pm note that where nobody's names are referred but critical of the things/facts cannot be termed as abusive and need not be deleted, but shockingly moderators are failing in deleting highly abusive/personally derogatory 2 line comments by some of the jealous/uncultured one on internet comments.

Yes. No one has a right to abuse others.

But it seems the constitution has some provision hidden away somewhere (that is not yet known even to constitution experts) that allows elements of the right wing extremists to throw bricks at people who they think are going to shout anti national slogans !
