when they are ruling everyone praises strong leaders sky high . when they invariably leave behind a wreckage for the burdenned common man - with no proper system , no successor , no administration -we really wonder what it means "strong leader" ! it is better we have leaders who leave behind a proper talented team .

Nicely put, but weak leaders like the regime from 2004-14 is even worse off. They leave behind no system, no successor, no admin & huge amount of baggage in the form of non performance on all fronts, ruined work culture, sky high corruption, no credibility & complete disaster in the wake. It becomes extremely difficult for the successor to put things back on track & takes up a long time to bring back semblance of good governance back into the system.

So that way speaking, a strong leader like IG at least ruled the roost as long as she was there & delivered on a number of fronts. That she would get assassinated was not known to her & her younger son's untimely death further compounded the problems when she was no more.

Same thing happening now too. Further who could be strong a leader, that a leader who gets support from grass root level with absolute majority in the Parliament or Assembly. It has become habitual the second line leaders mostly support the No.1, even the No.1 is not right in his dealing and hence their popularity is not made known and some times the No.1 does not allow others to dominate - may be the reason no strong leader emerges after the leader's exit.

@rajarshi banerjee : Of course weak leader will be disastrous no doubt. What is required is a strong leader who creates a good systems of internal checks and balances and a strong team(2nd line) that will take forward his vision and policies. Strong leaders are those who are popular plus create a strong second line team for succession. (not those who rule singlehandedly with iron fist and don't allow any body to develop -just see the status in TN after J.Jayalaita's exit )

WHAT IS SWON SAME IS GROWN ...thats why everything from politics , sports , bollywood other professions should be away from family or dynasty policies all should get equal chance according to merits .....because such cases have happened in past and we are not learning from history
