the family and party will invent "reasons" to keep this ganndhii surname somehow ( which itslef is dubious and misled uneducated people for many decades) .. even if people will give zero MPs in next election ! they have not relaised yet that this is 2017 not 1947 ..!! well ... you cant wake up people who pretend to sleep ..
Rahul will the president for next 10yrs max and he would give the mantle to Priyanka/vadra who will run the show even if Rahul is the president and it will pass on the next gen of the Vadra family who will still have the Gandhi surname attached to Vadra to get sympathy votes and current congress leaders will support them as they will need to survive in the poitical field in the years ahead. they will for sure need someone from the Nehru/Gandhi lineage to survive else each one will fight against the other to become president and will have at least 10 others to pull the newly elected leader or split the party into number of smaller parties, or it will go like the communist ideology based where there are number of political parties with similar ideologies but vary slightly between them interms of the aggressiveness or tone of their activities. Have a number of student wings with different ideologies but will not come together or see eye to eye to win elections
