Few questions:
by Zeng on Jan 08, 2016 09:00 AM  | Hide replies

1. How did " the terrorists have emerged from hiding", 12 hours after the intial meeting to discuss the clear intel input? Can't the army, security forces of 1000s, deployed with 12 hours time to do so, prevent few terrists from entering? Obviously they came in the same day, not that they were hiding somewhere before.
2. How could an elite NSG bomb disposal squad check for bomb without wearing any protective gear? This is what he is trained to avoid, what kind of system and training do they have?

3. Why is that, for any emergency in any part of the country, you have to fly in NSG from Delhi? A highly stategic asset like Pathankot should ALWAYS be protected by trained men and additional deployment should happen in max 1-2 hours, when you have Army stationed nearby.

4. In most countries, police force are equipped and trained to take on terrorists. We need NSG to fly in from Delhi?

5. With such precice intel in more than 12 hours advance, reasonable action should have secured the perimeter (even if it is few kilometers) and eliminated the terrorists before they enter the compound.

6. Even there was no light around the complex, which shows how much we are about our strategic assets. Asking for night vision equipments for people who are supposed to protect would be too much, then?

The terrorists were all dressed up as army men who cannot be differentiated from our own troops if deployed would kill each other. NSG, Garud and SWAT teams have diff uniforms which will help them to identify the army men in the middle of the cordoned area.

Also the NSG and other special forces can take hostage like situation if needed and they have specialized weapons to tackle.

We need to have trained commondos guarding the technical zone with high tech machines to man the area atleast 2 km which should be free from shrubs, Trees are OK to safe guard the assets from rocked launchers etc from a distance but not shrubs which is a hinderance in combing operations.

We need to have combat helicopters and rocket propelled grenades which can target the areas of terrorists based on the gunfire from terrorists which will make them run for cover as the attack will be 2 pronged.

Remove the enroachments near the airbase and the civilians. Guard the civilians inside the base like the families, cooks and administrators at a diff location within the campus, may be at the periphery of the compound or at a secure place within the compound

Create deep pits around the technical area so no vehicle can reach or terrorists, but for our troops to cross over have highly secured manned paths.

Have mined areas near the boundary wall so no vehicles or person can enter. Have CCTV cameras in all strategic locations where there are less person manning the vast area.

I want to ask all the arm chair critics who are raising a question "operation took too long "
How long the operation should have taken???? How do you decide the time to be taken by commanders on ground to deal with ever changing battle field situations. These people are naive and can criticize itting in their drawing rooms ,

no doubt valuable time was lost in meetings. it is the responsibility of local security forces to fix the target and to neutralise it by them selvevs or by the superiorly equiped forces if it is found beyond their capability. decentralisation of decision making is the need of the hour to deal with the terrorists

This shows that you are complete idiot. Of the 7 killed 5 were from DSC which is composed of retired personell, and they were unarmed too.

Rohit - You are a self righteous idiot for having this attitude. Are the deaths of older DSC personnel any less important? And how about 12 NSG and 8 IAF personnel who were wounded, some severely? Do they matter to you?

Stop using words that would be better used to describe you. DSC is in charge of protecting Indias defnese assets - the kind we spend billions - lakhs of crores in INR - every year. The same equipments. This is no joke.

Unarmed? There was 12 hours for them to get armed. You should ask how terrorists got inside, even when we had time to deploy as many personnel as we want.

We spend billions and it just take 5 terrorists with guns and granedes to take over them? Imgine the situation if there was no intel? Shame on us.

Lessons learnt after Mumbai Attacks - None
by Ayon Pradhan on Jan 07, 2016 10:37 PM  | Hide replies

They only reason there were low (and very unacceptable ) casualties is because this was a military base. If this had been the middle of Delhi, hundreds would have died - only the Mango Men, since all the important people have their Z-Class security cover.

What were the lessons learnt after Mumbai attacks? Were the soldiers equipped with proper rifles, optics, body armour and night fighting systems?

Were they trained in close quarter battle, and response teams created ahead of time to deal with situations exactly like this one?

Certainly the police, the first line of defence against such attacks, are under trained, under equipped and have very little motivation in general.

When the alert had been sounded on the base, why were the Defence Security Corps personnel caught unarmed and unaware in the cook house?

Were mini-UAV and remotely operated vehicles used for surveillance and bomb diffusal?

Has the administration of Netas and Babus understood that the terrorists we face today are not the same ones from 20 years ago? They are highly trained, motivated and ready to fight till the death.

Naxalites carry out accurate and deadly ambushes at will which take out entire platoons of soldiers. And the ones coming over from across the border are trained to fight independently deep behind enemy
lines.

Or this is just another case of "Saab Chalta Hai Yaar", because only the Aam Aadmi faces the brunt of these attacks - just a bunch of Mango Men
