MIG21s as Frontline defense ?
by KrishnaKanth V on Jan 05, 2016 06:10 PM

Dear Nitin Gokhale Sir, I still keep wondering how our military & IAF placed several MIG 21s in the Pathankot airforce base which is supposedly the front line defense against attacks in Western front ?

We all know that MIGs have done their service since 1971 Indo-Pak war and have already been outdated. So what's the point in placing these old war machines against the more powerful F-16s which Pakistan already has in surplus ?

Why can't we place Sukhoi MIGs or the Mirages which are more modern with additional capabilities in the front line defense areas ? Those will be a deterrent force as compared with the MIG21s..just a thought from an ordinary Indian citizen..

Jai Hind

Mr. Shukla first do your homework properly

How justifiable it is to criticise Doval without knowing the full details that went into the making of this incident. Mr. Doval is an officer of rare calibre and skill. Dime a dozen experts like Mr. shukla can only aspire to be like him. But, as long as he has the stamp of being a congressi tuchcha, he can never ever hope to even come near the shadow of Mr. Doval.

It appears he is unhappy with the process of transparency in defense procurement adopted by Modi govt. Also, when capable person (Doval) is at the helm of affairs, quite but natural that jealousy plummates with vested elements.

What where the lessons learned?
by Ayon Pradhan on Jan 05, 2016 05:30 PM

How many lessons were learnt from the Mumbai attacks and implemented here? And how many lessons will be learnt from this attack and implemented in the future?

Was the base security adequate to begin with?

Were the defenders of the base equipped with night fighting system and body armour?

Was there a cordon set up and the base put on high alert after accurate intelligence was given about the attack?

Why were DSC personnel surprised in the canteen even though there was news about an impending attack?

Why was Punjab Police so complacent after reports of terrorists on the loose were given to them first hand?

Did the army and NSG train together and share tactics and lessons on how to handle these type of terrorists, including the sweep of bodies and general are for IEDs?

What was the command and control protocol for the defenders?

Or was it another case of saab chalta hai?

There is mystery and something amiss about the SP abduction and terrorists using his vehicle. They want the nation to believe that the terrorists let the four persons go unharmed. And one case the neck was slit only to bleed but not to kill. A common murderer would not do that, let alone fidayeem fighters. Interrogate these guys and will surely get key to unravel the mystery behind the attack. No attack happens without local support.

Doval is a RSS appointee. Modi should get rid of such people quickly if he wants to restore the confidence of the people that voted him to power.

On the other hand, Shukla is no saint. He is a Congress stooge and he never criticized the government or NSA or army failure in 2013 when China squatted at DBO (Ladakh) and refused to move back for several days. He had been an ardent supporter of UPA government's military equipment procurement policy - which was criticized by everyone.

high time politicians realized that the blame game is counterproductive in national security related matters. Comments posted in twitter after Mumbai terror attack is now being thrown back! Easy to criticize, but difficult to perform

A large conspiracy by Insider.
by Raghavendra on Jan 05, 2016 12:38 PM

There is a larger conspiracy by insider and which should be brought to light. BJP at center has terribly failed with its security, now time has come to upgrade the system with that of Isreal and russia which would not have taken more than 2-3 hours to end the siege.

Security at Pathankot.
by kaberi gupta on Jan 05, 2016 12:28 PM

On the night of Thursday-Friday a group of terrorists abducted the SUV of Talwinder Singh. They also took his cell phone, through which they contacted their handlers in Pakistan. Security knew about these calls. Why no action was taken to catch the terrorists? These people were at large for 27 hours in the township of Pathankot before they start their operation. They entered into the airbase by climbing 12 feet high boundary wall. They must have used a ladder or one might have jumped the wall by first standing on some body's shoulder. If the first option is true then how regular security did not see that movement with a ladder? If second option is true then there must have been more than six people in that group. How could they fight for more than 3 days? If they were carrying dry foods, water and lots of ammunition and grenades, then how could they be able to get these inside the premises? Was there breach in the boundary wall? So much of ammunition must have been stored inside in advance and the question is who helped them from inside to store dry food, water and ammunition? Defense intelligence should should take up the matter in their control to find out how this incident happened? Pathankot Airbase is a secured area under the control of Defense Ministry. Why we are not hearing any thing from Air force?
