Discussing foreign policy freely in media is silly...
by Ganesan S on Jan 03, 2016 06:51 AM  | Hide replies

IMHO, there are many crucial things the Govt is doing which can't be discussed in public. For media, discussing anything that can get them TRP ratings and money is very fine, but not for the country. I think the Govt is doing the right thing by not discussing things they do which can't be discussed in public, not even thru its spokesmen in media debates. So, the media discussions are no more than spicy news for the public.

All politicians must realize that military diplomacy is not their cup of tea. Previous and all past govts were dong silent manures to avoid conflicts and losses. But, while in opposition, they brag in media, people get mislead. see the same who bragged earlier are silent now! Leave it to professionals.

While I broadly agree with Mr. Suresj Kumar's views, surely one can question Congress since nothing much was accomplished by them in the last 10 years of UPA rule, and 50 years of rule since Independence. Whereas questioning Modi's Govt in just 18 months if grossly unfair. If we question at every step, no Govt can ever function or deliver. Surely 2019 Elections will be a time for stock taking by we, the people.

The points above are too utopian and will finish whatever self respect India has been left with. Already previous govts have done nothing worthwhile. Any joint operations with the enemy will only open us to ridicule and worldwide insults and mockery. Can you imagine such meetings between Israel and Syria, Iran and Iraq, China and Japan ???? Brig Kanwal has gone overboard.

Not convincing.
by Sudarshan Nityananda on Jan 02, 2016 06:47 PM

It is possible that in the Saltoro incidents, both the Army commanders were reasonable people, genuinely wanting to avoid conflict. However in the Kargil case, there was enormous pressure from Clinton in the US forcing Pak to sue for peace. Hence the example given about two Army commanders reaching an agreement is not convincing. Getting the army generals into the political talks may work only if the Pak generals have changed their mind set into a genuinely peace seeking one. Otherwise the results will be the same as before.
