by Ravi R Saigal on Dec 21, 2016 09:40 AM  | Hide replies

on 16th Dec I went to withdraw Rs 2000 from my SBI Card at ATM of Vijaya Bank GK-2 New Delhi Since this is the Only ATM Which was doling out Cash after a Wait of nearly 1.5 Hours Turn Came but the Transaction Failed , It Happened to many other SBI Card Holders as well

No Receipt came out , No SMS came But Next day to my Horror I Realized that the amount of Rs 2000 got debited, Even after running after SBI Till Date Money has not got Reverted back & I am Chasing SBI Customer support everyday for 1 Hour to get through.

Similar Thing happened to me around 8 Months Back I made a Transaction of 67000 through Internet Banking It was Last day to Pay enrolment Fee for my Son, Unfortunately The amount got Debited from my a/c But transaction Failed , The Institute Didnot get Money
I had no More Money in my a/c to Pay that amount again
I Kept chasing the Bank for nearly 20 Days to get my amount Back

So Friends take your Own Call decide If Digital Transactions are Safe.
Anyways I am Big time Regular user of Internet Banking
but Not very comfortable of using Credit Cards for online Purchases / Payments etc
As Regard No Cash Use : There is another gentry in the country Who cannot read or write They Recognize currency based on Its Color , How will they Go Digital ? When they give say Rs 500 to a Vendor They Know how much they get Back etc. But How will they Read in POS Machines how much money the vendor has taken Out ?
MAke Cheque Payments as far as Possible Stay Safe !

True... I have also such experiences.... Govt banks are not responsive... They are not even acknowledging our complaint... Employees are not worried... On the contrary they doubt us....

Yes particularly SBI and its associated bank staff are arrogant as most of them have Government accounts and do not need other customers. On the contrary, private bank staff members are polite and customer friendly.

To Mr Ravi,
Could you please send your bank statement , where I need to see that it took twenty days to get the money back. Does the system really work like this? If it really so, then why you are still working on Internet? For the last fifteen years I frequently using Internet Banking, I never face this type of problem.
Once, in Muscat , my Debit Card got locked inside the machine, I did not receive any money, however the money was debited from my account. But within the next 24 hours , I saw the whole amount is back in my account? Now I will check it within my accounts disturbing the Internet during the transactions

Are digital transactions in India really safe?
by Sane Voice on Dec 19, 2016 05:52 PM

There is no fool-proof safety for Digital transactions. So are cash transactions which have their own draw backs. Only difference is that fraudsters in respect of cash transactions have to be there at the scene of crime where as digital transactions frauds can be committed from anywhere in the world. More over to switch over to digital transactions on such a large scale and with such a great haste, all of a sudden, with a large part of our population woefully ignorant about usage of digital platforms, passwords, password secrecy, etc, and with our police force not equipped with sufficient equipment and manpower to handle digital crimes, it is going to be a field day for fraudsters. The fact that IT-advanced states like Karnataka and Maharastra have not shown much progress in cracking digital cases indicates the level of preparedness and expertise our cyber crime police possess. No doubt the government is rushing into areas filled with mine-fields where angels fear to tread.

Qualcomm says no app is safe.
by chanakya maurya on Dec 19, 2016 05:25 PM  | Hide replies

The undue haste by the government is far from prudence.

First develop a fool proof app and make it the only legitimate e wallet to be regulated by something like DRAI - Digital Regulatory Authority of India - before pushing the public into a digital ghetto.

DRAI will come under the North Block.

There will be only one national wallet rather than numerous toms dicks and marys vulnerable to digital rape.

What we need is the stringent laws. Many people lost there hard earned money due to Internet banking frauds, bank raise theier hand saying you have compromised the password. So we should do digital transaction until the laws are changed by the government.

Cyber crime expert?
by V Nagarajan on Dec 19, 2016 04:45 PM

I heard the cyber crime expert say the following.
In the cyber world today, nothing is safe.Your card or account or mail can be hacked in no time by the experts in the field in seconds.Through your debit card, your entire account can be emptied in seconds.
So,in 21st century, nothing is safe? So,it is better to keep a minimum amount you need in your account each month.
