It is Jawans and other non comm ranks which retire early. Comm. Officers retire at various ages depending on seniority. Most of them retire after 52 and hence can not be called as retiring early. If there is desire to work they have hundreds of venue open to them. There is just no logic for officers to demand for OROP.

Whatever one may call it agitation or Satyagrah, it is to tax further by Rs.10000 crore as Govt. does not have plan to cut perqs. of govt. servants and divert this money to defense people.
We all must oppose it, money is to be taxed.

Of course it is an agitation by "trade unionists".
Review the language, the high pitched threats and the blackmailing tactics by these "veterans"

Enough is enough
by shrikant Desai on Sep 05, 2015 08:51 PM

All my friends at Janter Manter and Chairman. I am also an ESM. Govt. has given us enough. I would request you to get back your poise and dignity back that we were taught in Academy and exemplified by our COs and Generals by their personal example. My CO who later became Lt. General often said we did not join Army to earn wads and wads of notes we are here because we love our profession and the pride it gives us to be brave on battlefield to command our soldiers. With this background shall we keep on shouting on road for some small issues like daily wages workers? We have made Govt. to listen to us and the Govt. has told in no uncertain terms they have heard us loud and clear now leave that to them what they give us as per their ability after all they have to look after 125 crore our brothers and sisters. Enough is enough do not take for granted on your shoulders the dignity of 25 lakh ex-servicemen. We are proud of our ethos, dignity and sober behaviour.

This issue of 'OROP' could have been handled in a more subtle manner, with a lot of finesse.

By this argument, they are reducing themselves to the level of 'mercenaries', is that acceptable ?

Satyagraha
by PRASHANT VAIDYA on Sep 05, 2015 12:51 PM

Mahatma Gandhi never took the path of Satyagraha for his own benefit. So it is wrong to say that this is a satyagraha. I a humble citizen of this country do not accept the conditions put forward by the soldiers for his pay. A just demand is always appreciated.

SATYAGRAHA
by JAAGRUK INSAAN on Sep 05, 2015 11:23 AM

It might have been called SATYAGRAH in reality but fought at WRONG time and against a promising government.

The Satyagrahis must ask this question to themselves that -- WHAT STOPPED THEM TO FIGHT FOR THIS EARLIER During the CONGRESS regime ???

Since the inception of the new government after MAY 2014, there was never a lack of commitment & purely it was due to the stubbornness ( Not coming to any solution fast & remaining adamant on their unjustified stance) of the Ex Servicemen that the issue has been kept pending so long.

The Ex-servicemen have to keep in mind that the future generations also should get employment and all the money can not be pondered on them alone. i.e. they should be rational in their demands.

Government never had any issue of lack of commitment to resolve this issue.

Hence they should appreciate the government for their commitment level as compared to the previous corrupt governments.

Unbecoming
by Krishnakumar Narayanan on Sep 05, 2015 11:09 AM

Calling this agitation a 'satyagraha' is an ultimate insult to Mahatma. Totally unbecoming actions and dialogue for a true soldier. Indians don't mind a section getting some benefits from public fund. But we do understand everything. Don't think these all are some divine service to the nation. Even the immature leader of Patel agitation claimed he is the next Sardar Patel. Show a bit more maturity than him, we expect at least that wisdom from you distinguished ex-servicemen.
