Abolish Caste
by Surendran on Sep 02, 2015 01:00 PM

The rich become richer and the poor remain poor. If it is upliftment of the poor then end the caste based reservations and move fully to economic reservations. Reservations only for BPL ration card holders even if it is 50%.But this too should be gradually reducd , the logic being that even the BPL family will benifit over the next 30-40 years by this economic reservation and move out of the BPL category. I wouldnt even mind an economic reservation in private sector for the economically backward but definitely not for caste based reservations.

Reservation and vote bank
by sanjay kulkarni on Sep 02, 2015 12:46 PM

If today's caste based reservation system is converted into purely Economic based conditions.....

in such situations, for any political party, assurance of people support is mandatory....

Are we going to give full support to govt. for this decision- including those who are enjoying the reservations being rich - ? If this support is needed, then is that going to be converted into the VOTES to the govt. for this decision?

Caste & Religion
by Narayanan TN on Sep 02, 2015 12:37 PM

In fact, Hardik Patel is in right path. It is time to abolish Caste and Religion identification system in India. Each one of us is a proud INDIAN 'BHARATHIYA' and should not be identified as Hindu, Muslim, Parsi... They are personal and private within the family culture. Any reservation should be on the basis of the yearly income. Narayanan

Caste is Indian apartheid
by rekha sethy on Sep 02, 2015 12:27 PM  | Hide replies

Please try to understand the gravity of casteism. Dont see from your top of the pyramid persepctive. Reservation for Dalits should be 100% for ten -twenty years. Caste system will stop the Pujhari culture should go in the temples. Equality of opportunity should prevail. The ruling class of palitical parties their son, daughters and inlaws will not allow it to happen in next 50 years. See who are candidates in election, whose money is being spent. Democracy is myth in India-- Feudalism and top of caste pyramid fascism....... Pl see India from a different paradigm

I doubt reservations based on economic status will be successful
by saurabh on Sep 02, 2015 12:25 PM  | Hide replies

Caste division runs deep in Hindu society in India. Its a curse. Even if reservations based on economic status will be implemented in India, those people in influential positions (decision making desks will use it to give these benefit to the people of their own caste men only, as it was being done before 1980s. It will become tool by influential caste to their poor caste men, and may fail in its objective to social equality.

I agree with you Mr saurab. But the grinding casteism at teh dalit level should be removed rather than the Mandalites. Pl allow them to enter temples and other functions, give them social empowerment. Dont say that they shouild send their children to schools rather than taken to drinks. Pl understand their upbringing and mental condition amidst suppression by invisible casteism.
