SC opened its doors at 3 AM.

Actually the verdict of the Supreme Court should be final.Going to the Governor or President with a mercy petition makes no sense as it is the party in power who makes the decision, and many a time this would be dependent on who the convict is.Injustice could prevail.

Rubbish to say injustice can prevail.

Seeking mercy is a constitutional right but having mercy shown to him is not a right of the convict. Injustice can be shown only if the mercy petition is not decided one way or the other. there is no injustice in not showing mercy.

The SC court indeed went out of it's way to show that it was willing to give the accused every opportunity of being heard.

But what were the accused's lawyers trying to prove? To me it just shows that Yakub was a coward who did not think twice before killing hundreds of innocent people but was desperate to hold on to straws to get a few more breath of air.

Exhausting all possibilities.

First a TADA court. Then High Court. Then Supreme court. Then a review petition.A second review petition.A curative petition. Then petition challenging the rejection o a mercy petition and time frame.
If a Govt.employee on his own makes changes or suggests changes in a noting he already made,he is charge-sheeted,may even be suspended.
There is a very good ground and reason when the PM once said about five star activists trying to/or influencing the judiciary

We want punishment to all hard core criminals within one year time, whether with summary trial or daily hearing or hearing all such cases in night shift.

People who say "justice not done" are wrong
by Vijay Sahani on Jul 30, 2015 10:38 AM  | Hide replies

Justice is never one sided. I'm surprised that some people are more concerned about the human rights of the criminal than of the people (and their families) who lost their lives. There is a law of the land and that law was followed to the tee.

People who think there should be no death penalty should take their grievance to the Parliament.

when Supreme Court opened at 3.00 am
by Pradip Shah on Jul 30, 2015 09:55 AM  | Hide replies

With due respect to the Indian Judiciary and the some knowledge of Indian law, I think once Supreme Court confirms death sentence after considering every aspect of the case on merit the decision of which later confirmed in the review petition and curative petition, the legal battle for survival ends. This is one the extra ordinary case where the experience, legal knowledge, maturity and widsdom of the honourable judges of Supreme Court, the President of India was questioned by some of the intellectuals who were in favour of the life imprisonment instead of capital punishment to Yakoob Memon. Did any of the so called activitists ever visited the palce of victims who died in blast and those who were seriously injured and had realised the plight of their families ? With 24x7 TV, every one want to come to limelight and get publicity. Once every politicians and people say that they have utmost respect, trust and confidence in the Indian judiciary, they should accept the decision of the highest court of the country with utmost respect without any doubts whatsoever and their decision should be treat as final with total respect. India is a great democratic country where even a person like Kasab and Memon gets full and fair chance to defend themselves for years and Honourable Judges of the highest country have sleepless night to attend the hearing at 3.00 am in the morning for the convict who was responsible for the death of 259 people and causing serious injuries to many people.

We salute the SC judgement, president rejectio, governot rejection and even given maximum chances to defend is one side face of coin. If any one politicians, judiciary, president and governors think why this bomb spot happened in Mumbai. What is the reason behind. The creator of this reason are freely walking at they should also give some punshment but that is not in this case only we are sufferr and families are suferer etc etc. I am not against of this capital punishment but at lease judiciary should consider the reason behind of this bomb spot. If any body said truth moderator will not allow the comments.

a magnanimous Apex Court
by Raghavendra Bhat on Jul 30, 2015 09:44 AM  | Hide replies

Nobody can go about saying that the justice system in India is not fair. The Apex Court has gone out of its way to hear desperate pleas for mercy from a diabolic killer, where else in the world would a Supreme Court patiently hear out arguments very early in the day? At times one is left wondering whether the Supreme Court of India was played upon. Finality in such terror acts occurs only when the real masterminds are pursued and brought back to justice. Terror acts of the jihadi or desi variety have no place in civil society, we need to bow before our Apex Court for having shown firmness and magnanimity in equal measure.
