Re: 32 years on, IAF gets first Tejas light combat aircraft

Why is t considered impossible for Indians to make jet engines ? All the basic science and engineering knowledge available to Indians is identical to that available to anyone else in the world. In fact most of them read the same books as these are largely common to the whole world. What makes Indians want spoon feeding rather than stand up on their own two feet, if any ?

Thats funny when we are not able to design a IC engine for automobiles in india, Jet engine is really a tall order. It needs lion heart to even attempt it.

LCA is an outstanding piece of engineering. It is one the lightest fighter aircraft in the world with such high percentage of composites
It is indeed a great step . We should believe in ourselves . bring back Indian brains. We should reduce imports for defence . when can we develop bofors like canons ?? We have technology for space crafts , missiles etc but many simple items are imported ! High time also to develop Indian designed and made passenger aircrafts . or push Boeing etc to make a factory in India ..

Imports attract many because huge flows of money with no serious limits on rates make the handlers drool at their mouths.
If India wants to be free, it has to put an absolute dead stop to the practice, irrespective of consequences in war preparedness. That takes courage to the degree of fool hardiness, a commodity not found in Indian civilian decision makers. The Chinese could do it but not Indians.
We should congratulate the INDIAN Air Force and the Congress for supporting this Project. This project could have easily be suspended but the then Government had a vision to make INDIA a super power. Good Job!

With the kind of money and the time spent ...32 years...i could build one and a better one within half the time

First at least make an ordinary 2 wheeler engine. Start your own company to manufacture IC engines.
DRDO and HAL should be congratulated despite all the delays. Bettr late than never. It will prove to be great learning experience for both the organisations.

Foreign moles in high places in the Indian bureaucracy and politicians complex have caused delay of every Indian defense related research, in an effort to stop Indians from doing serious research.
LCA has given employment for 1000s in India. India should develop 100 seater passenger planes on the same lines. This will generate employment for 100000s.

It seems u r preoccupied that everything western is great and Indians cant produce anything worthwhile ,come out of it

what is krish R u referring to Krishna ? He was born out of contact btw Devaki_and_Vasudeva when they where locked in jail by_Kamsa

Mr. Mar Thoma, I think you are referring to a KITE. That was the Ancient India Advanced Fighter. Silly idiot.

India did not need fighters in Vedic times, as the Good could defeat the Bad by merely thinking about them. They had access to thought death ray technology. All Indians must cooperate to rediscover the secrets of Vedic Thought Death Rays, which will restore India to its ancient Vedic Glory.
2014-32! what a great plain it may what a fighter!perhaps USA and USSR may replace their fighters with this plains will be an added feather to our DRDO!!our DRDO had taken 25 years to develop Arjun tank! with German engine and french turret gun
No.1, the person who has written this article does not know ABCD of defence. First of all, I challenge him to prove it took 32 years to complete the main aircraft.
Secondly, it is sometimes a "Lifafa" journalism (as well as Natashas, booze et al.),that makes some journalists in India (prompted by the foreign defence lobby) to keep on only high lighting the negatives of the indigenous manufacturing industry.
As a proud Indian, however,I am proud of the LCA induction, as would be most Indians.

If you know more then him then prove your metal. Prove it that it did not take 32 years. can you do it with proof. It is too easy to brag sitting at home. If not then stay silent. Mr Son of Encyclopaedia.

• Project Definition Phase (PDP) initiated in August 1983 with a government sanction of Rs. 560 cr for conception of LCA programme. • PDP document submitted to the government in 1988. • In mid 1993 Phase-I of Full Scale Engineering Development (FSED) sanctioned: Rs. 2188 cr sanctioned included Rs Rs 560 cr sanctioned earlier. Scope limited to building and flight testing two Technology Demonstrators only. • First Flight on 4th January 2001 (Less than 8 yrs) • FSED Phase-II sanctioned towards design, development and flight testing of 3 Prototypes and 8 Limited-Series Aircraft at a cost of Rs. 3301.78 cr. • Additional Rs. 2475.78 cr sanctioned In 2010. • The delay in obtaining these sanctions necessitated several design upgrades towards obsolescence management. • All these were addressed making Tejas a state-of-the-art, advanced Four Generartion combat aircraft. • Tejas granted Initial Operation Clearance (IOC) on 20th December 2013.

Fully agree because the journalist in India think themselves to be expert in all the fields while they are virtually ignorant about the technology aspects.Ironically, the experts comments are given by the journalist who are totally nil about the technical aspects.

The best answer is to publish a detailed scientific article quantifying the achievement in objective terms, instead of answering an opinion with another purely subjective opinion.
Pride should not be created out of nothing, but must be based on knowledge of objective and verifiable achievement.

The cost is $1.3 billion dollar, if this true this is peanut and even five times more expenditure would be justified as apart from creating a indigenous jet fighter it has far more important implications. It provides critical starting point, platform and technologies to be used for next generations, 5th and later 6th generation of jet fighters. Further even more critical its forms critical mass of scientists and technologists in the relevant fields. Next step if to work of AMFA (fifgth egneration) and to improve on Kaveri. IF MoD is willing to payout $15-20 billion for 128 Rafale jet fighter that are 4/5th generation then surely it can find money to increase AMJA jet fighters development budget substantially.
