After 32 years....what a JOKE!!!
Its already obsolete before it could even fly.
Also, the heart of the aircraft, engine, armoury, are imported...
Why not privatise the defence industry like in USA

Can you develop a fighter plane from scratch, I give you 624 years double the time.
I bet you will not even know where the first line is to be drawn.
As for Imported Non country has all the facilities, it is not needed to build a facility if it is available else where an work contracted out.
How about your self growing your own food, what ever you are eating is either imported or grown locally be some one else. It is not produced by you is it?
Fool boy.

I see many critics on this forum whose natural instincts is to pull down others. We should appreciate the fact that India now has its own indigenous fighters rather than criticize the delay.

Nice try...after 30 years in the making, it's probably already as obsolete as the MiG-21s they're meant to replace??? And it looks like the Kaveri engine's come acropper...a dud.

And like the token Arjun Tank, they'll build a token 20 of them just to save face???

You ignorant fool, Arjun Tank is India's pride and is considered one of the best in the world. Please focus on whatever your occupation is rather than commenting on issues which you have absolutely no knowledge about.

Better late than never...

This aircraft is 15 years too late... but letter late than never. Instead of going for large projects that it cannot finish, DRDO should focus on smaller and more attainable projects as the building blocks.

Take an example from Israel. They haven't created their own combat aircraft, but they have created all sorts of avionics, missiles, upgrade suites and UAVs that are extremely high quality.

According to the prevalent pecking order of India, first priority is to foreign spies and moles, then indigenous bribe takers, and only then is it possible to go for indigenisation of technical research.

Tejas-LCA development
by krishan sharma on Jan 17, 2015 10:50 PM  | Hide replies

Being a former Defence scientist and actively involved with the indigenous development and prototype production of critical superalloy components for the jet fuel starter (a small turbine engine that is used to give initial thrust to the main engine and to be used when
main engine fails). That engine was successfully developed and is being produced by HAL. However, the main engine could not be developed by a major DRDO lab in spite of continuous efforts for 15 years at huge cost and the present TEJAS aircraft is not what it was planned initially. This was a major project headed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), an autonomous body under DRDO. The aircraft is now equipped with imported GEC engine. Of course ADA got other systems developed indigenously by various govt or private agencieslike controls, avionics, ejection seat, airframe thanks to the leadership and vision of its initial head Dr Harinayana and other team members.

Jet Starter ia small air turbine that is used to rotate the main engine initially till the main engine becomes self sustaining. It does not operate at very high temperatures, unlike the main engine, and does not require super alloys. To my knowledge the entire avionics package , flight control systems and other critical components are also imported. Only the airframe seems to be indigenously made. India and China became independent almost at the same time. China is producing its own military aircraft and now starting to produce even civil aircarft. What is iIndia's record?,

Congrats Modiji
by Bharat Soni on Jan 17, 2015 10:43 PM

Congratulations to Modiji and team. Modiji and his government has done enough for this term and should take some vacation and spent few months in Las vegas. Our dear government can later resolve smaller issues like corruption, terrorism, violence against women and unemployment. But Modiji has to find a solution to this Love-Jihad ASAP.
