Black spot on Indian democracy
by Mak Kumar on Jan 15, 2015 10:12 AM  | Hide replies

These old hags like Medha Patkar, Arundhati Roy are the biggest warts on Indian democracy. If we listen to these old haggards, India would still be entrenched in 14th Century. This land acquistion bill of 2013 was focussed only on garnering votes from the tribals and rurals. Why should the government ask the buyers to pay FOUR TIMES THE MARKET VALUE to the seller? Why should the government need to intervene in a agreement between the buyer and seller? Do you think anybody in right senses will agree to buy land at 4 times the market value? Will Medha Patkar be ready to do that? And why should these land owners be exenpted from Income Tax? We middle class are the only ones who need to pay income tax - you make us the scape goat for all your subsidies given to the so called poor just to garner votes.
Enough of these vote bank politics. Good that Medha Patkar lost the elections, I am sure all these Medha Patkars and Arundhati roys will be relegated to dustbin in the next 5 years

root cause

There is a feeling that industrialization removes poverty. It may or may not. We have to consider the population size. Just imagine if everyone has a car, there will be 120 crore cars on the roads. Crooked industrialists are simply showing the carrot and encouraging the government to promote industrialization. In the short run it may create some low paying jobs, that is all. Actual problem of India is the size of the population. If we had taken note of it when we were just 33 crores when we got independence, and practiced family planning property, we could have easily brought it down to 10 crores or less. There would have been no stress on resources then. When there are limited resources and too many potential consumers then There will naturally be a fight. That is what is happening. It is the poor who are losing and for which they themselves or their forefathers are responsible, it is they who created children like cockroaches.

British "Brutish" Law still continued in India for what
by on Jan 15, 2015 08:57 AM

The colonialist British invaders had created the Land Acquisition Act just to fulfill their agenda of LOOTING India -- they did not care about the Indian People, and were not interested whether their acts destroyed or negatively impacted the environment, culture, traditions of the Indian people. Each and every Indian citizen has a right to live in the country and engage and continue their ancestral professions and trades. The government has no right to enact laws that can forcibly and without the consent of the person, take away his/her land and other properties. Development should be for the benefit of the Indian citizen and not solely for the corporations, the politicians and their "affectionate buddies" -- the fundamental rights of an individual regarding the ownership of land and property should never be violated. The country does not belong to the government and politicians -- the country belongs to the people. LEGAL PLUNDER by enacting such laws should never be allowed!! Where those dispossessed and displaced by the government ordinance go? What will happen to them and their families?? It is a shame that the independent government of India still wants to continue the draconian laws of the British-Vultures!!

This is certification of something that must be good for the nation. Anything this old frat objects to, primarily to stay in the news, is always that is better for the economic uplift of the poor. This woman is a sad excuse for humanity.

Well...somebody has forgotten his roots!!

I think Mr. Modi has forgotten his roots...he was a Tea seller and presumably from the poorer section of the society before became successful in politics. Hence, it is expected that he understands the problems of the poor in the country and society...looks like he has lost sight of his past...farmers are the backbone of our economy...they r the ones coz of whom India was able to withstand and sustain so many sanction thrust upon us in past....hope Mr. Modi doesnt forget that..any country that cant protect the ones who feed its people is doomed!!

Two areas of concern
by Chandran KR on Jan 14, 2015 09:25 PM  | Hide replies

Though Modi speaks about Make in India, Make it Clean and Green, it looks like it is eyewash. The two areas of concern are population control and environment protection. This govt is sorely lacking in these two areas. The PM still keeps harping on 65% of population is below 35 years of age and India is a young country and so on and so forth. This itself is the most dangerous thing for India. In a short while from now, this young population will become old and does he expect the percentage of young people to remain same, if yes, then we are in a dangerous situation. Secondly he says India will export skilled people as if other countries are waiting to welcome Indian workers. Then all policies are such that forests will be cut down to make way for industries. This is going to change climate drastically and India will have to bear the brunt of this destruction.

The govt has to use the aadhar card ration card to give subsidies only to deserving families which are small in size. Also, the age group of the children vis a vis the parents have to taken into account to dole out subsidies. If couples below 25 have more than 2 children they should not be given any subsidies. Currently we have the pathetic situation of 38 to 40 year old grandparents. Old age benefits should be given to only people who have less children that too who had children late say after 25-28 for first child and after 30-35 for second child.

Yes. some might lost their lands. In a land where nearly 65% are in agri sector, those who lost lands might be less than 0.25% only. Not as medha proclaiming.

Poor

Country needs drastic political and administrative reforms, Modi should put emergency for 6 months to bring all reforms together so that country advances for 50 years, else all such nuisance mongers will always create trouble for obstructing the path of growth. These people did nothing except to create hate amongst masses and dividing the society for poor vs. rich, SC,ST vs. others, backward vs. others, muslims vs. Hindus and now woman vs. man. Every Govt. from the last 67 years befooling tax payers for poor only.

The SC ST's were treated as just vote banks, honoured and glorified during elections all these years. They are going to get assmilated by entire Indian society and see real prosperity only under Modi rule.
