That's what happened when you create work in an alien language. We can't get same quality as writers of indigenous languages. We are running a race in which we bound to stay behind in compare to there native speakers. Because it is them who set the rules, after all it is there language or mother tongue.
Chetan Bhagat has convinced lot of Indians who never read books to read. That by itself is an achievement. If his book was great literature he would have lost 75%of his audience

And also a lot of Indians will start reading books written in English language.
Chetan Bhagat at least has a massive following in India. I like his novels and he keeps it simple. He doesn't write on global topics so how will he get audience outside India. Arrogance and superciliousness are dripping from this interview

I cant tolerate a Chetan Bhagat novel. But, yeah Taseer seems to be so full of himself and arrogant.
India is not semi literate. Its an illiterate nation. Even the graduates dont have proper manners, lack hygiene, lack communication skills or ability to analyze or think. India needs a massive literacy drive and emphasis on good quality education. Not even 10 % of Indians have a good education.

If you are semi-literate, it does not mean the whole country lacks literacy. You better look in your backyard before commenting on others.

All white people are smarter and more articulate than Indians, according to you. Indians are too hyper-critical of their own people. They do not find fault with too many Caucasians. Therefore, Indian have an inferiority complex problem.
Because We try to copy Literature from Shakesphere and other Europeans as Demogods We respect Superflous words with no meaning Rather than Keeping it simple like leo tolstoy or Premchand I think Time has come where the inborn talents will reach zenith Chetan Bhagat definately a great Begining

I have read ll the plays of Shakespeare. The story and content of these plays are sometimes well below par. However, because the authors is a Britisher (Englishman), the themes of the plays are over-valued and hyped. I find a lot of wisdom in the works of Kalidasa too, although most Indians do not recognize his greatness.

I salute your audacity to call William Shakespeare below par... India's indeed illiterate! Taseer has definitely hit the mark.
