There is no definition of a great literature. You may have a taste of something and will claim that to be great. However I may not be in agreement with you. Same is the case here. "Highly Literate" people may want to write in a language that requires dictionary and patience to understand but it doesn't gels well with the Audience of today that wants clear and concise language.

Great Literature is any literature that will expand the readers mental horizons. All the classics have this quality.
Last I perused through a chetan bhagat(i don't care to remember which) i cringed. Why, i thought, if this guy can make it to the bookshelves so can i! While i haven't read Taseer, i admire Talveen Singh's work. Will make sure to check this one out. P.S.-Ekta Kapoor and Chetan Bhagat together. Time to run for cover.

Chethan Bhagawath's half a girl friend is a re-hash of the old book published some 40 odd years back love story. In love story the heroine dies of cancer. In half a girl friend she is revived after a pseudo-death. Love story is a much better book.

Mr Taseer, we are not a semi-literate country. Most people who read books here know that what Chetan Bhagat writes cannot be counted as literature. But the kind of content in his book is something that Indians find a bit surprising rather scandalous. That's why people are reading them. We would have been surprised if you said he is a great novelist. The fact that he is from IIT/IIM is what is giving him readership.
Good interview by Nishi Tiwari. Aatish Taseer has come out as strong and bold author in this interview but with a tinge of arrogance. But he does deserve appreciation for being open in his views.
One question: Why is the pic of Aatish Taseer missing and there is a big one for Chetan Bhagat? Poor presentation of the content in that sense!
Re: Good interview but why no pic of the author?

Not every writer wants their pictures clicked and be all over media. Writers, especially good ones, are usually reclusive. They stay in public to observe then retire to quiet corners to be with themselves. That is when bolts of brilliance strike best.

He is a useless writer.............I think I can write better than this moron
I am not a literature reader/writer. Is it necessary for an Indian writer, or for that matter any writer to find audience everywhere to claim their success or literature prowess? I don't think, I am worried if Chetan's books finds acclaim elsewhere or not. When I read, if I feel it's good, that's all it matters. When I like a book, I DON'T EXPECT it to be certified by the likes of Shakespeare. Period.

Disclaimer: I don't criticise the criticism or the critic. It's just my view. Please don't take anything wrong against this article or interview. I think the interviewee has all the right to express his views on Indian literature and writers.
