CHENNAI FLOODS
by ishwar gurnani on Dec 04, 2015 10:23 AM  | Hide replies

India has always been very fast in providing help to neighboring countries during all natural calamities. We have not yet heard about any neighboring country reciprocating in the same way. Inspite of doing all that, we are hadly having cordial relations with any of the neighboring country!

why blame neighboring countries while our own national medias didnot pay attention. for them only the north is India. Amir khan statements and a dalit murder or a rape in northen state is more and more important to them to talk 24 hours raterthen south Indias natural diaster.
How even the neighboring contrie will come to know the diaster while the nationa media is not covering it.

by Raje on Dec 04, 2015 10:15 AM  | Hide replies

Desaster managements under modi government is worst. There are so many deaths in Assam, J&K, Bihar, Andra, Maharastra. This all jappened after modi government. Following are key issues is hadling desaters that is missed.
1. No Timely action. Most of the things where predicted earliers, NDRF reached most locations after desastre happened.
2. No political will. If your not in power in that state, thaen why should you act.
3. Unable to create awareness in peoples.
4. He shpuld have spent some more time on desastermanagement rater than wasting time on forein visits.

First of all why let a disaster happen and then manage it. Why not avoid a disaster, by proper town planning, which we have been ignoring over the past many years

Chennai city is below SEA
by Common Man on Dec 04, 2015 10:11 AM  | Hide replies

Chennai city is below sea level and the water doesn't flow into sea.

This was observed during the Tsunami of 2004 but the administration never learnt any lessons.

This is normal rainfall in many Indian cities, though new to Chennai. The city needs an effective storm water drainage system

Management of natural disasters
by MAHESWAR DEKA on Dec 04, 2015 09:51 AM  | Hide replies

The extraordinary floods in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu deserve attention of experts. Experts must find out whether the heavy rains in Tamil Nadu are a result of global climate change. That climate change is the outcome of emissions is an established fact and few rich industrialized nations are the big emitters of emissions. It is assumed that the extreme rainfalls in Tamil Nadu are a direct outcome of our ever warming planet. Already, the global average temperature has on the increase and if it continues to increase, the lives of humans will be endangered. The ongoing Paris climate meeting must take note of the occurrence of the heavy rains in India’ Tamil Nadu state and studies whether it has been caused by global warming. The heavy rains in Tamilnadu state in India are a diasater and hence experts around the world must find the reasons of occurrence of it.

Chennai story...
by jayarman on Dec 04, 2015 09:31 AM

A poignant piece of a writeup. Community help and comradiare is the need of the hour. Let each one of us to do little, in whatever way possible. Even in this hour let us not pollute the surroundings. Criticism of centre, state and local govts do not bring anything. We are one of them. They too have family and undergoing the same sufferings. Yes, we will and should not let it happen next time and prepare ourselves on guard.

I am one of the unfortunate ones who are away from Chennai at the hour of need. My 90 year old sick father, 85 year old mother are surrounded by 5ft water in Saligramam. But I have my angel wife looking after them along with people from the ground floor . Fortunately my son is there along with his wife and my little grand daughter who is hardly 14 months old.

But you're right. No caste ,creed or religion only humanity. We will rise from the petty differences and be a strong Chennaite.

story of two big time thieves - Jayalalithaa and Karunandihi - and about 3.5 crore fools who keep electing and re-electing them in the hope that their state will become *developed* and they will all be able to partake of a fair share of the fruits of such *development* !

What else they would do? Who ever is elected is turning out to be corrupt. So long as you vote accepting the election eve gifts it will be like that. It takes time to change through the route of improved literacy to the level of 100% which is not in the site in the near future. Same story in all states except kerala
