Sir, Please see the number of people dying from bad quality of WATER. Now should we ban water? It i best that such choices as to lifestyle be left to the individuals, and the general pubic protected to only the extent like public smoking is banned.

It is possible to die from a LACK of water, not just bad quality water.
Tobacco is different, not using it will not make you die of dehydration. It has no good effects, except making some people rich.
It is an addiction, preventing individuals affected from making a free choice. There is no comparison between drinking water and tobacco smoking; it is dishonest of you to suggest it

Agreed, pl see my reply to dinesh post above.Water , air, transport- these are biggest killers, and nothing done to control them ---
It has not been proved that tobacco is cause for cancer. It has been proved that the chances are high. There is a man aged about 92 years near our house, who is a chain smoker, good drinker and eat daily meat. He is perfectly alright even do not have any respiratory problem or even diabetes and pressure. Some time back there was an article in The Economic Times where scientists, have said cancer is a biological ill luck. So why this wrong publicity for tobacco. in fact drinks cause more harm to human health than tobacco.

Nothing is 100% in life Mr. It is all a matter of probability. I may cross a very busy road blindfold without getting knocked down. But the probability that I will lose life or limb is very, very high
Hon.Minister should visit Tata Memorial Hosp in Mumbai which treat Cancers caused by Cigarettes/Tobacco. Lung Cancers/OralCancers(Sub Mucosal Fibrosis) details will be available to him with history of patients. Essence lies in Preventing rather than treating Cancers.

BUT AT THE SAME TIME IT IS WORTH SCIENTIFIC STUDIES IF HUGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE SMOKING MORE THAN 20 CIGS A DAY DO NOT DEVELOP CANCER EVEN AFTER 50 YRS OF INDULGENCE IN SMOKING

More effort can be spent on better quality of air, water & food which will protect & save crores of money as well people. Similarly for road & Rail safety. No harm in banning ads for tobacco & putting restrictions on consumption, but banning consumption is drastic. Why not ban junk food?
