The author clearly come s from a privileged background and would be happy to sleep with a white German instead of go close to a desi Indians. this pontification from English speaking upper class is the curse of India.

can someone tell this f000lish lady that the new government is not obliged to follow the policy of previous governments, it can can cancel, modify or change any thing started by previous government.

I am not saying that German should not be taught. In the US it s compulsory to take one foreign language at the university levels - take German, French, Russian, Spanish, Mandarin, Thai< Arabic or Japanese of your choice. That is fine they don't compete with the Sanscrit a native language and mother of many Indian-asiatic Languages.

I applaud Ms. Irani to take a correct steps and allow middle school children to study sansrit and defer German to higher levels. There are so many private lessons available in all foreign languages if you are keen on learning.

Much of the comments here show how ignorant our people are, they have forgot our culture and language and now harp on some foreign language. This is the result of our Pseudo Secular party agenda of the last 60 years of rule, which has to be reversed, it is a difficult task and the ignorant fools will not understand till it show results.

German should be taught as some students visit Germany for job or studies but Sanskrit should be encouraged as all our puranas and religious information is in sanskrit . But these model styled pen writers does not have the complete information about many important issues and simple they start jotting

sanskrit should be the National Language, but German stays.
by Dipak Bose on Nov 23, 2014 06:28 AM

German is a foreign language, one should study to get the opportunity to have free education at all levels in Germany and several other European universities where German is the common language.
sanskrit should replace Hindi as the National language. Hindi is not popular in the South and North East. Sanskrit is very popular everywhere.

German, French and Spanish...

... are dying languages. Even people with these languages as their mother tongues are fast learning English for better career opportunities. No wonder that a rich country like Germany is involved in underhand deals with politicians in third-world countries like ours to push their language and give their language some lease of life.

Take my word - status of these languages wont be more than Hindi, Tamil, Turkish, Bangla or Thai in a couple of decades when these students grow up to build their careers.

Ideally the English language teaching in schools, particularly in KV, needs to be significantly improved instead of teaching students new languages such as French or German.

It would help in nation building more if students from north are pushed to learn a south Indian language or Marathi or Bangla or Oriya and students from Tamilnadu are made to learn Hindi or one other north Indian language including Sanskrit. Dravidian politicians in TN are justified in asking why their students must learn Hindi when students from Hindi-speaking states need not learn other Indian languages.

Pushing Indian languages within India has also the potential to reduce some level on unemployment among common man as there will be much more demand for language teachers.
