Mr. TVR Shenoy
by piri on Nov 07, 2014 07:47 AM  | Hide replies

may drool away in vain hope that the BJP may someday soon, get to win at least a few seats in the Kerala legislative assembly (he has expressed this sentiment obliquely several times in his pieces).

But Mr. Shenoy must never lose sight of the fact that the BJP could - after repeated, loud and shrill braying campaigns by Narendra Modi in Kerala during the 2014 LS elections - garner just 10.4 % of the total votes cast !!

How sobering this fact is can be understood when one considers that the BJP won 11.6 % of the total votes in the 2004 LS elections in Kerala - when Narendra Modi was nowhere in sight !

Now Congress being not even eligible for Opposition leader in LS, Mallus can be happy. The other prodigals CPM is also going to evaporate in to thin air having no base in any state, except God's Own Country. Mamta has ensured that CPM and their Polit bureau can function in Delhi and Brinda & her hubby can have a vacation there only not in West Bengal. Only these Mani (Licence gate- 5 Crore for bar licence) and other Kinis can stay for some time, till BJP takes over.

When even the slightest hope cannot be seen on the distant horizon, all that can be done is to say with fake bravado that the BJP WILL TAKE OVER ONE DAY!

Piri, I am debating your words "when even the slightest hope connot be seen on the distant horizon". These words or the words meaning this was spread by you and your like minded people at the time of last general elections and elections in Maharashtra and Haryana. What was the end result? All the parties were wiped out. Kerala is going face the same situation, but may be it will take about 5 to 10 years.

I laid out statistics from the website of the Election Commission of India.

Despite Narendra Modis feverish pitch of shrill campaigns in Kerala in the 2014 LS election (he visited the state no less than 4 times and travelled the length of the state, each time accompanied by a religious or caste leader), only 10.4 % of the Kerala electorate voted for his party. This was less than what the BJP got in 2004 (11.6 %).

Modi had a number of things going for him in the 2014 LS election, not the least of which was the very strong anti incumbency towards Congress, which completed two terms in office.

If Modi could not improve the BJP's vote share in Kerala in 2014 (when he had so many things going for him - anti incumbency against the Congress, divided opposition, parties such as the CPM and the CPI not taking him seriously in Kerala and thus not attacking him, etc.), when can he ?

In Maharashtra and Haryana, the BJP - owing exactly to the reasons mentioned above - got about 10 to 12 % more votes than it got the last time. And this made a big difference.

That is the contrast between states such as Mah, Haryana and Kerala.

Do analyse the statistics a little to understand facts.

Changes are coming in Kerala?

In favour of the BJP ?

So, will a large segment of Keralites now begin to defecate on the streets as their north Indian counterparts do ?

Since someone appears to have given you the script of future changes in Kerala, you should be able to predict whether this will happen too !

You are also sure those statistics put up by the election commission are all wrong, aren't you?

You are sure that 46 % of Keralites actually fell swooning to Modis braying noises but somehow, inexplicably, no BJP candidate got elected, right?

First of all,as an austerity measure, the post of governors should be dissolved.Vice president of India should handle the cases of oath taking ceremonies or take temporary charge in case of political instability or appoint his emissary whenever needed.

It is high time the post of GOVERNORS is abolished. The Governors literally live like ROYALTY in palatial Raj Bhavans with a huge retinue of aides and servants

wrong practice
by suresh kumar on Nov 06, 2014 11:07 PM

It is a known fact that Mr. T V R Shenoy is a staunch BJP supporter. Modi started a wrong precedent. An apex court CJ is the last word in Indian Judiciary. Tomorrow, on the wake of his retirement, if he shows a slant towards the ruling party or its sympathisers in return for a plum post after retirement, this precedent only could be blamed for it. Story Jayalalitha's persuasion behind the appointment also is going rounds in media..

Chief Justice of India became a State Governor
by samuel GS on Nov 06, 2014 10:50 PM

Mr.Justice Sadasivam should have politely avoided the offer of governorship when there is adverse criticism from eminent personalities. But he seems to have counted on the pay and perks and other comforts attached to the post. Now everyone speaks of his integrity. Very sad.

Government and lawsuits

Maybe it was rare in 1949 but in the last few decades the government has been the biggest litigant in the higher courts. So is Dr Ambedkar's argument still valid? Maybe he didn't foresee how crooked our politicians would become.

Dr Ambedkar's view
by NJayakumar on Nov 06, 2014 09:46 PM

Dr Ambedkar's view might have been acceptable in an ideal condition as generally seen in western society, where integrity in public life is far better than in India. Many cases in courts are involving politicians as opposed to Govts as said in the argument. The alleged cases of politicians returning favors to persons in legal service with coveted positions later in TN is a classic Example.
