Sankrant, Please make an effort to understand why previous efforts in this regard have failed. Trying to impose Hindi on non-Hindi states will lead you nowhere. Ask yourself in which areas English can be replaced by regional language. And confine yourself to achieving that. As tempting as it is, this Grand-Plan-To-Oust-English will lead you nowhere. Good luck to you.

Where do I advocate Hindi over non-Hindi speakers. I am advocating that a child in Tamil Nadu also be allowed to be a doctor in Tamil medium, just as they can also be in English medium. A child in Bengal should be able to be an engineer in Bengali medium. Countries a fraction of the size of these states do this.
You are ruled for two hundred years by the British and the n suddenly you find that not only you have your identity but everything including all your sefmade industry how to even build a ship and sell cargobecause the British had destroyed everything you held very dear even your economy and to top it you become a socialist country which did not help for 60 years. It is only now aftet the opening of the economy you are at least dome respect inthe international world.China opened long back. The IT revolution was a sucess because of English. If we hadf followed Sanskrit we could be considering to be different but the Muslim rulers did not allow it to happen so now we cannot turn back on English because regional languages will not help thry are inadequate.
The obsession withe English will not end, and should not end. Hindi and Indian vernaculars are useless in the spheres of education, economics and politics. Indian languages cannot be easily computerized because they have too many characters and typists were never available. English has 26 characters, 15 punctuation marks and 30 possible diacritical marks for easy adaptation, transliteration, and expression. Most of the top text-books in all fields are written in English in India, America, Britain and other Eurpopean ountries; and further, Indians do not have proficiency to write books or letters in Indian languages, including Hindi. The world looks down upon people who do not have proficiency in English, and this is a reality. The fraction of English speakers is rapidly increasing in the forth-coming generations as older people die; and India will soon have more English speakers than the United States. If you do not have even words in Indian vernacular dictionaries that can express your thoughts accurately and succinctly, there is no point in pursuing Indian languages at higher levels. English speaking countries such as United States, Great Britain, Canada and Australia have distinct advantages over other countries; the erstwhile Soviet Union, Warsaw pact nations, Japan, China and Korea have not been able to overtake English speaking leading nations mentioned above. Over 80 percent of the communications in the world and India are written in English.

did u read the entire article .? idiotts like u will never listen to any body. No body looks down chines, japanese, Korean, Germans,French, Brazillians and Spanish people, they all are not english speaking countries. All those people learn every thing in their languages.
I think India is doing a wonderful job In preserving indian languages where Hindi has not trampled yet( like bhjpuri maithli) . We need to address this in UP. WE Have to make 3 language formula compulsory for these UP belt so that thy will know the richness of Indian languages. .they can use English or Hindi for development their CHoice The author does make interesting points. He says yes English is required by we need to preserve our Indian languages just like Europe with 24 dominions are doing.
I think it is fine and it is followed on all o india.
The problem is some states like up which only teach Hindi and many of them being no exposed to global world feel this is enough. Also they are so ignorant they forget their other Indian languages
India can never make progress if it slavishly follows English. India was rich and prosperous when it learnt & followed its own languages. India needs to create knowledge in its own languages.

No harm in learning English. But harm is in learning subjects in English medium forcibly when it need not be.
India waste tremendous resources trying to teach 1.2 billion people a foreign language. No wonder English educated Indians have lost their creativity and can only follow orders.
People are confusing here that the Author is arguing for giving up English which is not the case. The main intention is to learn English only as a language and learn all the other subjects in their mother tounge. This is logically correct as well as for any kid who has to learn the subjects in English medium, the English acts as a barrier between the kid and the subject because the kid has to first master English and then go to the subject. This makes learning one step extra and tiresome for the children. And also 100% absorbtion of the subject inspite of effort cannot be gauranteed compared to the mother tounge. Most of the effort goes to drain in Mastering English. Besides English being such a Logical(ill) it unnecessarily wastes energy and time of the large natural talent of this country. Thus it is totally unproductive and uneconommical. This explains why our country's economy is in such a state even after 67 years of freedom. Thanks to our slave mentality. Its high time governments frame a proper policy and phase out English instructions except treating it just a medium of communication rather than instruction.

But Hindi is not the solution for that. We need to think outside the box.

Who is saying to use Hindi. Every one is advocating us pf Mother tounge. Also what I have noticed is that our people pick Indian languages more easily than a foreign English due to similarity of Grammer and lot of common words.
