Really! So you mean to say there will be no relief to common people of India and only riches will have their say? In the name of facility upliftment you are justifying fare hike and depriving poors from travel for work opportunity. What an idea sirji?

5 Years lalu didnt increase rail fare from 2004 to 2009 and then Mamata didnt increase rail fare for 2 years and then Tiwary was not able to increase rail fare. They shud increase rail fare at least 4/5 % every year. 14.2% increase looks justified after 10 years.

A biased and lofted article.
by Mohan Rangan on Jun 18, 2014 03:07 PM  | Hide replies

Though i agree in general with the contents of the article, but not with this one "Indians have no history to be proud of, the society was caste-ridden, backward and primitive. Indians should be ashamed of their faith and but for the intervention of the English India would have remained a disunited, backward country full of superstition. Indian intellectual achievements in mathematics, astronomy, medicine are a part of communal propaganda. Aryabhatta, Sushruta, Bhaskara never existed and there is no evidence on the ground of any Indian achievement in art or architecture.". Which is not really correct.

You are mistaken.. The parts of sentences you are talking are the thoughts of Macaulay! It is not true and is been told to you that Macaulay thought in such a way!

Xianity arrived in India in 62 AD?
by Ishwar Sharan on Jun 18, 2014 02:09 PM  | Hide replies

The author repeats the tired fable that Christianity arrived in India in 62 AD (actually 52 AD). Not true. Christianity arrived in India in the 4th century with Thomas of Cana (not/not Thomas the Apostle). By repeating these discredited legends as Indian history, the author undermines the authority of his argument.

Author has given credit to British Maculay for indian constitutio
by Anil Bharali on Jun 18, 2014 08:41 AM  | Hide replies

The author was mostly logical in his argument but it rather strange as he is totally unwilling to acknowledge the contribution of Dr Ambedkar on constitution ! Is it not hypocritical in part of the author ??

They were the Macaulay's creation of brown sahibs. They never took pride in Indian greatness. They made a simple copy paste of other books existing elsewhere instead of creating for our needs.

Anil, If you try hard to miss the 'point' of an article, you can find a million reasons..! The article was never about Ambedkar in the first place.

We cannot blame Macaulay for everything
by Varadarajan Ravindran on Jun 18, 2014 04:47 AM  | Hide replies

In the sixty six years of freedom, India should have taken advantage of the English language and in developing higher education. Instead the Indians intensified caste system with reservations, stifled free market economics with licenses, and then crippled competition with dependence on foreign powers. Modi will rectify these problems in the long run if he increases the industrial production and improves infrastructure. We must not categorically blame Lord Thomas Babington Macaulay for everything that had occurred due to the policies of the Nehru dynasty. It is possible that without English language we would have been in greater trouble.

Varadarajan,
The author is not blaming Macaulay for everything. He is blaming the people who carry forward Macaulay's idealogy... and there are a lot of them in India
