ENGLISH,TECHNOCRATS,HUMANITY STUDENT
by chandrakant mantri on Aug 05, 2014 11:46 PM  | Hide replies

Science and Technology ,backbone in todays day to day life was all researched by English people. To undertstand and master it, we have to learn English. Thanks to English, we earned huge foreign exchange, other wise what would have been Petrol/Diesel prices in the absence of huge dollars.Compare volumes of Books studied, classes attended in Hours by Technocrats and Humanity boys. When all the society celebrates many festivals, and do chating, technocrats are writting exams.Even if you remove mathematical aptitude from CSAT and introduce full humanity subjects, technocrats will be way ahead. It is not subjects, it is their hard work and talent. Then Urban and poor divide. Where from all urban people came. Have they fallen from HAVEN.They have come from villages too.Now a days, students are demanding huge concessions in studies. They want to carry over failed subjects and get promoted to higher classes, even failed in not one year but two years. If not accepted, then agitate.Only thing that civil services aspirants from rural background should be be given extra chance to appear compared to technocrats. But standard of exam should not be lowered,

Why do we need IAS at all? All the people want to become IAS for the power it gives, the free perks at the cost of Tax Payer and much less the for the Pay Packet. If it is for (legal) Money the could make more than double the Salary in several MNCs, not in today's IT jobs but even 30 yrs ago. Speaking of need to learn English or the basic qualification for IAS (Bachelor's Degree) some people expressed that English is not necessary for an IAS Officer to perform his job successfully but it is his overall talent. YES. Even our Politicians are from that class. Then why do we need even Graduation as Basic qualification for IAS or IPS. Why not even non Matriculates be permitted to appear for any UPSC or State PSC Exams?

The cost of untaxed free perks an IAS Officer gets is almost Rs.10 laks per mnth. This mad craze for IAS and changing rules to benefit Hindi belt, will come to an end, if all the Non Hindi speaking States take decision, not to have any IAS Officers at all in their States & in fact Officials who come from the ranks, perform better after their decades of experience, in the same field, over & again. There is resentment in several Depts, to IAS being posted, only to sign all the work done by his subordinates with decades experience.

Although it may not be relevant here, I would like to mention that a major contribution to making English the most important global language came from Adolf Hitler: because of him, the English speaking countries, mainly the U.S., were flooded with scientists and engineers from Europe, not only from Germany. Before Hitler, German was possibly more important than English.

When the Soviet Union ruled over eastern Europe, Russian was a major scientific language. It still is, but less than before. Since the 1990s the U.S. has been getting lots of Russian scientists, making English even more important!

All media houses based in Delhi project and shows only these 3 state news and project just like any kind low level news as national headline..Last week was small force feed of 2 individual done in anger...now this UPSC. Do these media houses and news channels remove INDIA from their logo or name and just add North India News channel..

No. If so, separate other states from India. If India means Hindi speaking people, then the non-hindi speaking people should be separated like India-Pakistan partition. Come on tell what is your view. Nobody has the right to compel others to accept what they are. If the Govt is going to accept these useless bunches' demands, then the Civil Service Exam should be conducted in all the regional languages.

people from hindi belt lacking in self confidence, think they can not compete with others in any other way. So, by removing english they think they have the upper hand.

shame on part of the agitating people , if you are not able to get through the UPSC exams. it shows you are not qualified but making interruption in administration is rediculous. all these persons should be banned for appearing any competitive exams whole life time. instead of improving the manner demanding backward. all reservations no examination direct appointment with bureacrats influence is required for the agitating perons. these persons not eilgible for the sweeper pot in UPSC office.

Understand where this is coming from
by Laid in India on Aug 05, 2014 11:07 PM  | Hide replies

South Indians who are by and large diligent in studies dominate the top positions like IAS, IFS and IPS. The politicians from the cow-belt feel that the only way to stop these scholars is to impose Hindi. This is agitation is clearly produced, directed, funded and publicized by BJP. Of course even if this absurdity is adopted, South Indians and Bengalis will master Hindi in no time and once again put the fodder-brains out of the merit list.

Sidelights to the affair as follows. Mr Sharad Yadav has been one of the noisiest Hindi-chauvinists. He spoke about the CSAT issue in Parliament today. Ironically, when he was referring to numbers, he used the English words and not the Hindi ones, probably because he found it difficult to use the Hindi words. Ha Ha! On an earlier day, when Mr Rajnath Singh was making a statement on "destruction" of files, he also reverted to English when citing the number of files that were involved. HA HA HA HA!

The govt has given in to a small fraction of the candidates who protested in Delhi. There were no protests in other parts of the country. The govt decision happened because almost all MPs and particularly the ministers who took the decision come from the Hindi belt. If there be an outcry now from the South, Bengal, etc. against the decision, it would not be unjustified. In fact, MPs from non-Hindi states have already expressed their protests vociferously in Paliament. My motherland is being cut into pieces. The decision, overriding the opinion of the Panel headed by Mr Verma, is not in the interests of the nation. As a retired academic, I have already seen the damage done to university education (particularly science) over the last 40 years or so by the bungling imposition of Hindi, a language not adequate for administration, science, technology, engineering, or medicine. I have seen Ph.D.s who don't know the difference between Ph and pH, can't even spell "logarithm", don't know the difference between equilibrium constant and rate constant of a reaction, and I have known a physics Professor who had never heard the word "algorithm" or "paradigm", who was always saying and writing "procession" in place of "precession", and so on. Now the language poison has contaminated the administrative services also, the downhill progress of our country, already set in motion by the "quota-over-merit" policies, has acquired further

successfully conquering even its worst enemy - France!

And here in India, nitwits who are unable to look beyond their noses but still drool over the prospect of sitting in high administrative positions are getting busy trying to throw it out altogether.

The nearest analogy is Don Quixote tilting at the windmills!

I fully agree with the article, there must not be trade unionism course adoption for a national activity like civil services, even before the first ladder step to the onset of civil services. By and by acceptance and yielding to such trade-union like protests may do no good but damage the whole structure of intake system not only for civil services but other parallel Central services and thus, ruin the very concept of Unity from diversity. CSAT imbroglio!
by thothathri raman on Aug 05, 2014 08:25 PM

The argument that Germany, Japan, Russia and China use their national language doesnt wash here as India is multicultural and we are fortunate to have a global language as our link language, at least up until now! with the Modi government caving into a small group of violent students arguing for their mother tongue, a bad precedent has been set in the country which will have a snowballing effect in every state students demanding a right to use their language. Hindi despite years of pushing hard by the centre and some state governments has never really been accepted as The National language by all in India and not everyone can speak this language which is alien to their mother tongue with fluency, let alone write a few sentences and pore over the government files written in Hindi scipt. In a world rapidly globalising, denying English is a sure recipe for disaster. BJP has done something seriously wrong here!
