This article has been put on the discussion board exactly 24 hour ago. But there are only 22 repeat 22 comments on the board. Rediff has no inclination to take the same off the discussion board. I have been witness to 500 odd and in a few cases even upto 1000 comments on a single article within 24 hours. Why this “ empathy “ of the Indian citizen to this much touted cultural extravaganza ( or mere classical concert ?? ) ??? . If this is the attitude of the average citizen outside Kashmir, why blame the Kashmiris for “ objecting “ to holding such a concert in Srinagar. ?? Is it to please and entertain the ordinary Kashmiri ?? - NO I have read reports that the bigwigs attending the concert are the Ambanis, Tendulkars and other VVIPs from outside Kashmir ! The only pure kashmiri entourage to this event was supposed to be busloads of University students “ bought “ and brought to the venue. However, the security agencies did not feel at home with “ this crowd “ and “denied entry “ on grounds of security. I remember an event in my life in the eighties. Myself and my colleague in the office got a complimentary ticket for two for a Piano concert in the city. The concert ( solo ) was being played by a black American well know lady pianist. We were on our scooter and when we entered the parking area, it was full of premium foreign cars, ( Mostly Mercedes Benz cars )

The Piano concert started at the exact time. The Lady was going on banging on the Piano ( which was not music to my ears or my friend’s ) After each session, she used to get up from behind the Piano , come over in front, and “ bow down “ very gracefully. The whole audience then clapped in ‘ UNISON “ . Only the “ signal “ would make the audience clap and ‘NOT OTHERWISE “ I told my friend ( who was already showing signs of uneasiness) that these people belong to the “ Mercedes Class “ and that “ WE “ can slowly sneak out of the Opera house, the next time , the lights dimmed for “ applause “ We did exactly THAT ! Why I mentioned this episode in real life is to highlight the fact , that one should not FORCE anything on anybody. This concert could have been held in Mumbai. Ambani,Tendulkar and other VVIPs need not have flown on private jets oror chartered private flights to Srinagar to witness this event. All this controversy and bad publicity could have been avoided. In any case, the average Indian Citizen seems to be NOT concerned, seeing the number of comments on this article, despite keeping it open for as long as 12 hours

Playing classical music to Kashmiri terrorists is like pouring perfume into the sewage. What a nonsense.
I have heard of conductors in buses. But this is the first time , I have come to know that the word has other meanings too !! Fifty odd musicians toil it out and meticulously play various musical instruments on this Bavarian concert group. But the man holding the soft drink bottle drinking STRAW takes all the credit for the perspiration of the toiling musicians.
