Santa: Of course you are right. The Gandhis who sprout wings from their back will always be so revered that anything against them and you will be ready to spill blood.
With this background Modi is working on not just defeating C-party but in finishing it for good. So Modi backed by RSS wants to start by promoting Sardar Patel not just over Nehru but also by belittling and demonizing Nehru to the extent of projecting him as anti-Patel and anti-Hindu given the latter’s Natioalist Hindu image.It is a very calculated move of Modi and BJP on the lines earlier tried but fizzled out efforts by Ram Manohar Lohia Lohia and Jay Prakash Narayan through their anti-congressism movements. That is why Modi and BJP keep harping that Nitish, Lalu, Mulayam etc. have left JP !Only thing is whether anti-Congressism plank alone would do and work or it would fail yet again in the absence of BJP projecting itself and co9nvincing people to be the viable alternative to c-party ? So far at least BJP’s behaviour inside and outside the parliament, its role on eradication of corruption from public life, criminalization of politics etc. are perceived by people to be not much different than that of C-party! But Modi looks quite determined and It remains to be seen how successful he becomes. Battle for 2014 is going to be a pitched battle for sure.
Very interesting and provocative column indeed !And congrats,quite objective too! But I would like yo take it a little further to the fact that unlike other BJP senior leaders Modi is an original thinker,can be ruthless and hates to be a loser. Main problem for BJP is lack of history and national leaders of its own of past having association with freedom movement. Even their Shayama Prasad Mukherji was originally a Congressman !On the other hand the C-party has fully exploited that history and its past leaders image, especially of the Nehru-Gandhi family to the point of somewhat sidelining other leaders like Sardar Patel, Netaji,Rajajietc etc. Further, C-party’s painting RSS as the villain over Gandhiji’s assassination to some extent is also not an objective portrayal because Gandhiji was killeds by right wing Hindu extremists more for his Pro-Pakistan stand on division of assets etc rather than for strictly communal reasons. In fact both even Nehru and Patel were peeved at Gandhiji’s intransigence of going on coercive fasting at the fall of a hat on the issue becoming a nuisance for the govt.
Vallabhai Patel is hundred percent Congress man and faithful to the principles of Congress . fooling people. There is hidden agenda behind this and every person in the street knows it. Trying to make it as a Naredramodi achievement is nothing but an attempt to malign Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi is regarded as Father of Nation. By erecting a huge statue of Patel,Gujarat has shown the way to insult the Nation. Well, if Gujaratis want to thump their chests, no one can fill the bill except Mahatma Gandhi. It is very strange !!!

Menda, well I can understand your squirrels brain, Gandhi and Nehru are the partners who have screwed India in the hands of Pakistan and China, Patel had done the other way round..go and get your basics correct.

YOU may have been insulted if an Indian's statue is erected. But please don't consider everyone else so petty minded that not worshipping Nehru or MKGandhi every day is considered a sacrilege

congress is more communal than any living human being.since majority of people in india are poor & illetrate they cannot think of beyond rs paid by congrss.

In 60 years, Cingress brought India into forefront of many fields and became a noted country worthy of making friends with it. In 60 years, it made tremendous progress because of Congress. Had it been others, it would have gone to dogs. Some people have no other business than running after cows, sadhus(like asaram), demolitions, murders and massacres. There is no other business than this for them.
