The wise policy for India is to fight a continuous low cost offensive war with Pakistan similar to what the Pakistanis are doing, so that the defense systems are continually tested and improved and the resources of the enemy are wasted, but never to allow full war to happen with China till the war with Pakistan has been completed. If a big war with China starts before end of Pakistan, then the goose of India will be well and truly cooked and India will not remain a free country. That might not be very good for most upper class and middle class Indians of today, though it could possibly prove good for the country in the long run because to be defeated and occupied by its enemies would give the remaining Indians an opportunity to review their national habits. That opportunity does not exist at present and cannot happen as long as India remains free.

A soldier is also an ambassador with a gun. Diplomats and soldiers have to follow policies set by government for dealings with outsiders. Indian soldiers did not allow it to develop into a fire fight, which is exactly what the government wanted them to do. They did their job perfectly.

oh yeah. Then why is he called a soldier.
A Soldier on border or line of control is supposed to arrest or fire if being fired or atleast fire warning shots or escalate it to his commanding officer and bring in helicoptors or other heavy artillery to bring the situation under control.
The commanding officers are supposed to respond and not call PM or ruling party leaders.
If the same thing happens On the Pakistan side of LOC Indian Soldiers guarding there does a heavy shelling. They react.
especially given the recent confrontation with china, it is good to know that this brigade is in constant training and receiving additional input from the usa.

The new proposed Mountain Strike Corps for the North East would cost 81,000 X 3 = 2,43,000 Crores of Indian Rupees to set up (three times the initial projections, as usual for Indian government schemes), and 35,000 Cr. INR every year to maintain (10 percent of capital cost). India has to think at least twice about the money before going for it.

India has a tight noose round its neck at the moment. China has a war capacity at least one hundred times more than India, and Pakistan has its full backing. If a big war starts now then India would be the looser.
The Chinese test of the response of India has shown that there is no chance of escalation by India, so Pakistan can be given go ahead for the next level of mayhem against India.
Pakistani attacks greater than Kargil and 26/11/2008 must be in full preparation, but when they will be delivered is not yet clear.

Whatever may be India has a reserved war in future. Neither Pakistan nor China will be India's Friend.
China will keep moving it forward positions on loose border areas and each government will loose significant amount of land to china and ignore it.
