As an ex service man you should bring to the attention to your previous supervisors the fact that you need better equipment, radar facility, to fly in clouded skies.

as an airforce man who had flown in this very areas for 20 years, i wish to convey to all indians, that the weather over himalayas can NEVER,NEVER be predicted with gadgets and instruments. we always fly on a wing and a prayer, but ,neverthless never fail to rise to occasion when needed, though most of the machines are operated ,at very close to their upper limit in the performance envelope.
Those who went to save others got themselves killed. Maybe in a hurry they failed to fill fuel or the helicophter was some cheap parts without service for many years, instead putting blame on weather.

The sources are saying that they crashed because of heavy cloud. I wonder why they are not provided with the latest radar technology which can easily help them fly blindly without watching the ground? I understand even with that flying in mountain are is dangerous.

Yes, they happen. It is uneducated guess too to assume that this was unavoidable. The fact is Indian army is ill equipped; it has been reported long time back by the previous army chief. Get your facts first.
From where these 3rd grade Choppers were bought. This shows eventually the condition of Indian Air force which claims to be the best. If a Chopper can't withstand the bad weather then how come it will show up the case during real time war? These poor grade choppers were brought probably with huge commission and bribary and consequently poor fellows who survived in worst condition failed to survive in this situation.

No, the problem is with the radar facility. They don't have proper radar facility to fly blindly in clouded skies.

PROBABLY ALL THE FULLS ARE HERE DISCUSSING NOT KNOWING ANYTHING.THERE IS NO RADAR WHICH CAN HELP TO FLY IN ZERO VISIBILITY.MOREOVER WHERE THE OPERATION IS GOING ON IS NOT A FROWARD POST OR A WAR ZONE.ARE YOU ALL BLIND ???HAVE NOT YOU SEEN THE CONDITIONS THERE ??IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO ESTABLISH A RADAR STATION THERE IN SUCH A SHORT TIME. YOU PEOPLE SHOULD JOIN THE AIR FORCE LEARN THE ROPES AND THEN SHOULD COMMENT.

It is so entertaining to read comments of ill informed buffoons.
I cannot see anything in the background. The armed forces are taking extreme risks under extreme difficult conditions to save the stranded people. They are our heroes and our saviours.
