Corroupt BMC
by indian on Jun 13, 2013 02:36 PM  | Hide replies

All that the BMC has done over the years is gulp money under various pertex, the contractors are also forced to shell out huge money and hence quality of work suffers, its time we mumbaikars take out rallies and bring the BMC to their knees, privatise the BMC

Remembering 2005

I spent a horrible night under water in Mumbai in 26th July 2005. It shows how officials over there spends less attention for actual development of the business centre

Some suggestions to improve living conditions in Mumbai in 5 yrs
by sreejit steve on Jun 13, 2013 02:10 PM  | Hide replies

- All slums to be declared illegal and demolished. Alternate housing to be provided for free(or compensation)
- Garbage disposal to be handed to private firm. Overnight cleaning of roads and pavements to be undertaken with full zest.
- All vehicles(except public transport buses) to be banned from 50 metres outside railways stations. Private Vehicles to be charged toll tax to move to areas prone to crowding..like south mumbai
- To encourage development of areas outside of mainland mumbai by offering sops to real estate developers..new govt buildings to be set up outside of main city..
- Renewed focus on infrastructure development, like flyovers, bridges etc.
- Incentivize rain water harvesting activities by societies. Encourage societies to be more involved in civic activities. Give additional powers to such local bodies

why targeting only slums. High rises near powai lake- near creeks where water used to recede are now blocked by the builders and they save their complex from flooding and other external roads are affected. Every flyover is flooded after heavy rain and no plans to route the water is being taken care. If it rains we cry and if it doesn't we don't get water, let us survive this 3 month rain with 3 or 5 disturbance to have more drinking water.

Illegal construction along creeks or marshlands shud be demolished..but u cant compare slums with high-rises or other pukka structures..slums r not fit for human inhabitation..the existence of slums is a blot on any country that claims to be humane and just..slums shud go, by hook r by crook..provide free housing for such slum dwellers..new migrants to the city shud be provided with nominally rented accomodation so that they dont go ahead and build new slums

Good suggestions! But all will fall on deaf ears of policy makers.

you get what you deserve, due to your ill thinking and way of life. If Pub is forced to close or Bar Girls are picked up for immoral activities, people take to streets, but for problems of this nature, who cares a foot. Bar Girls are more important to us than water logging.

Nitish Kumar, CM of Bihar will say, I am pulling out of BJP not because of Modi but because of SS's violent act and comment on Biharis, which is an NDA partner.
