i am assuming all writers support the reactor have no problem if the GOI builds a reactor 2-3kms from their home.

NUCLEAR
by AJIT ANAND on Jul 29, 2013 02:33 PM

What effluents is he talking about? A technology that is being followed by all the countries in the world, is being debated by a layman, who can write good english/vinglish, but knows nothing more than that.

6.3 Billion litres of waste water!!!!
by robson on Jul 29, 2013 02:32 PM  | Hide replies

From where this number comes from?? Clearly the author does not know how a reactor works!!! Is the author talking about the water used for cooling - since the waste water discharge is not a fraction of what the author has claimed??
If it is so, may i tell the author that the water used for cooling doesn't have radioactivity!! Yes, it is warmer though but free from radioactivity. And about the waste water, the volume is much much smaller and is not discharged daily also -mostly once a week and that too after sufficient dilution & treatment (considered harmless by AERB)!!

Request to rediff: pliz bring experts for articles on any topic not just activists who only shout without knowing the facts.

I will like to add that AERB puts much more stringent conditions than the international body ICRP sets (pliz see AERB safety notes). As regards to AERB being subservient to DAE, i will like to tell the author to check the facts again -AERB is now fully independent!!

Koodamkulam and poisoning the Beaches
by Ramadasan Erakkath on Jul 29, 2013 09:03 AM  | Hide replies

Such doomsday advocates against use of technology for energy defficient India are agents of India's enemies. One has to be pragmatic and trade off between the benefits and the cost paid. Looking at the trends world over Koodamkulam plant will be a boon and not a curse for people of Taminadu in particular and Sounthern India in general. It is a curse in India soecially that half educated and persons with vested interest kill progress and development. Most of them seem to be the so called socialists whose Meccas have already crumbled.

Nuclear Power if harnessed safely offers a much better alternative to fossil burning Thermal power.

i tried posting on this issue showing that the author of this article is biased. but it was not published by rediff. obviously shows the bias of the publisher to ill gotten unknown facts. why not look at kalpakkam and its effects to the sea? why go to brazil n china using an unknown us lawyer - who anyway r out to make money anywhich way they can?

i wd say that the first thing rediff shd hv done is verify the antecedents of the writer n who is paying him to write such trash. he cites some ambulance chasing lawyer in usa to confirm some data taken from brazil china? why doesnt he first look nearby at kalpakkam and check whether anything has happened to the sea life there? oh no - how can he do that when it is not favourable to his masters who pay him?

Baseless article
by Vivek Vadke on Jul 28, 2013 10:22 PM  | Hide replies

The author claims 'waste water' will be discharged into the seas. The fact is, it is only cooling water, taken from the sea, which picks up a few degrees of heat (typically 3-4 C), before being dicharged back into the sea. Thus, it is the same sea water without any contaminants whatsoever ! Rediff should check veracity of such articles before publishing ! In any case this 'Chennai Solidarity Group' is known to be funded by European NGOs, who report to various churches, and has been under scan of the central govt. These countries obviously do not want India to prosper !!

Regarding KKNPP Myths
by shri gupta on Jul 28, 2013 08:46 PM

I don't know the source of the story that Rediff has published above. However all such matter that has been published is totally baseless and far from truth. Infact any nuclear power plant has a well established and highly advanced waste management facility where the waste is treated before discharging into any water body. IN addition the plant has got the approval of three independent auditors viz AERB, State Pollution control board and Minstry of Enviroment. The apex court has itself provided nod for a go ahead to criticality. So why this hue and cry.
Inspite of publishing such report ,Rediff should send its personnel to the site to witness the truth .
