UID
by ajaz khan on Oct 20, 2012 12:23 AM

The writer is not thinking of safety and security of the people and country. But I feel there are other personal concerns which will prosper if UID are introduced that are corruption. He is writing that in US and other countries they do not have this, then can he explain what are their national id card system. How they keep national data base? My friend they too have a unque id and all the data is available on it. You cannot make false ids, they have social security no. based on that and over all when they enter there country first they have to produce is their id. So forget all and just blame our govt. for not mentioning it mandatory whereas it should be.

IF ADHARD NUMBER IS MADE MANDATORY _ THEN
by sathyam guda on Oct 19, 2012 10:39 PM

If Adhar card/number is made mandatory it is then the responsibilty of GoI to deliver it to every person maening just born to the oldest living Indian. The onus my law and rule the onus is on the GoI. It can not pass the buck to individual or some corrupt petty office/official who makes the life of all the people miserable to the extent of driving to death. So all citizens must fight it out. Any ID/Address proof mandate must be supplied by GoI or whatever Government and it shall be delivered to every live person in the country with out fail and till such time no one either banks/mobile providers/hotels whenn some one goes out or when some one books a ticket or travels etc etc. With out Govt giving one sin gle/universal identity GoI has no right to make mandatory any personal proofs. It will then be illegal. Every one knows the intimadation meted out to people by that petty officiaal who issues ration card or voter card.

It is a right step
by Sunil Kumar on Oct 19, 2012 10:14 PM

It is a right step to identify and rectify the future problems. We call the second largest democracy and we do not have a centralized identity is shameful. I think despite all the drawbacks and hick ups it would be a right step.

Aadhar is just an identification number and nowhere near US SSN. The US SSN is mainly for retirement benefit that takes into account an old person's whole life earnings. Aadhar does not offer any such benefit.

In US SSN is required everywhere. Bank Account,
Credit Card,Electricity connection, Gas connection, Income Tax, Rent an apartment etc etc and list. If any authority/org one wants to see if the person is in good standing SSN has all the history for that individual. If UID is similar to SSN then this is definately a right step in right direction.

UID card
by G Krishnan on Oct 19, 2012 09:55 PM  | Hide replies

The author's fear are well placed. I am curious about the proposal of the election commissioner. On the one hand the UID card clearly states that it is not a certificate conferring citizenship. That being the case how can it replace the electoral roles. Is it a way to legitimize all the illegal citizen votes, because the basic requirement of the UID card issue can be met by every Bangladeshi or other country residents. A social security number in USA is neither linked to electoral roles and nor does carry the photo or identification details. It seems a sinister political plan is afoot and is silently being put into operation based on our gullibility and general helplessness.

From what i understand UID is similar to SSN in US. There also every non resident get SSN assigned to him or her. SSN/UID does not give citizenship to any person it just gives that person resident status in a given country.
