he died of dengue and not execution. secrecy and other things are just to cover up. comparing this case with osama bin laden is just another childish excuse.

Closure
by Al Ringer on Nov 22, 2012 10:51 PM  | Hide replies

Glad that we can now bring closure to the Bombay incident. We all should be satisfied that proper process was followed through out the 4 years during the trial and the case was handled with fairness. This is a moment when Govt. can be proud of how it carried out the process of justice.

I am sure the victims of the Bombay incident also will feel relieved with this closure.

However, the secrecy around the execution of a convicted criminal seems a bit odd. Especially, when the Home Minister says even PM and Sonia Madam were not aware of the final plans. It does not speak well of a mature Democracy that we take pride. After all, there is still time for that maturity to become a reality.

There was absolutely no need for secrecy in my view. The announcement should have been made a week in advance. They should have invited as witnesses 3 to 4 families of victims, 2 independent Doctors, 2 independent Clergy, 4 or 5 media representatives, lawyers of the victims, lawyers of the Guilty and family of the Guilty. This would have provided adequate transparency into the final execution. This would have measured India at the International standard in dealing with such cases. India's image as open Democracy would have enhanced all across the world.

Yes, there could have been some random protests, but that is what we should expect in a Democracy. The protests could have been handled as law and order issue.

Anyway, glad it is over.
