binayak sen

mr. sen has done good work in tribal areas of chattisgarh. there is no two opinion on that. but he made one great mistake. he hobnobbed with the naxalites and provided them whatever support he could arrange. it is this aspect of his activity which is objected to by the government and a large section of the populace. naxalites are neo maoists who are trying to overthrow the democratically elected govt through force. this is not acceptable to us. we have accepted democracy as our form of govt and it is enshrined in our constitution. anybody opposing that is a traitor and an anti national. what is unfortunate is that mr. sen crossed this boundary to sympathise and encourage the maoists. otherwise, i also agree that he has done good work amongst the tribals which need appreciation. the govt also understands that he has done good work but what they can not condone is his covert assistance to the neo maoists. that has to stop.

SC of India has ruled that "hobmobbimg" with naxalites is not a crime.

Unless a person is "directly" involved in inciting violence, any humanitarian help which Binayak Sen may have allegedly given to "naxalites" is not a crime as per Indian Law.

You will certainly agree that SC cares more about rule of law than you or i do.

Mr Sahani, Mr. Sen is still on bail and the case has not been decided conclusively. If it is proved that he has only sympathised with the naxalites, he would perhaps get freedom. But if it is found that he has materially helped them, then he cannot escape the long arms of the law. There is still someway to go and Mr. Sen is still not on the clear. Suspicion prevails.

FYI, this is what SC observed while delivering judgement on Binayak Sen's bail application. If you still want to doubt his bonafides, it's your choice.

"The apex court also quashed the arguments made by the central government opposing his bail and maintained that it could not produce enough evidence to detain him any further. The apex court also rejected sedition claims made by the central government against Dr Sen, while adding that the possession of Maoists literature does not prove Sen’s involvement in Naxal activities.

“If Gandhian literature is found in my house does that mean I am a Gandhian,” Justice HS Bedi said while countering the argument of the government. The apex court also opined that there could be many like Sen who sympathise with Naxals.

"We are a democratic country. He may be a sympathiser (of Naxalites) but it did not make him guilty of sedition. He is a sympathiser. Nothing beyond that," the bench stated, while perusing the affidavit filed by the Chhattisgarh government opposing his bail. "

Do remember, incompetent governments use strong arm tactics to curb dissent. Branding someone naxalite and putting him behind bars is much easier for them to curb dissent than to apply rule of law and due process of justice. And Nobody can deny that most (almost all) our governments at center and in the state are grossly incompetent.

Comparing with democracy and freedom, starvation is nothing
by Raj Gupta on Jun 18, 2012 10:14 AM

Even they are in starvation, they are enjoying the democracy and freedom of India. That's the beauty of India. Famine in India is not a big deal since India is promoting democracy and freedom in the world.

How can he be given Gandhi award?
by One Liner on Jun 18, 2012 09:01 AM  | Hide replies

He has been accused of abetting violence.
Gandhi was against violence even for a good cause. So the foundation should have waited till he is cleared of helping violence. Looks like he is a double faced guy - talk sweetly and knowledgeably about India poor etc and work from behind the cover against India. Only such people get international awards. Even these awards are part of conspiracy against India

The Indian Real estate demon is killing all fertile agricultural fields, siphoning water into high rise towers and swimming pools whereas rural folk go without water.

Forget about farming, people are deprived of drinking water because of this mindless real estate mania.

Disgusting concrete blocks appear everywhere, where once green paddy fields. Unless this real estate disease is cured, we will be extinct.
