Go on fighting in the name of religion, language, caste, culture, habits, region, colour etc. Today what western people did in 50 years, chinese have done it in a time of 5 years. Shame on all indians. Lets congratulate them and learn from them

The Chinese have achieved a lot but they also have big problems. A second pregnancy results in a forced abortion. Protesters whose children were poisoned by spurious baby food were given long jail terms.
I always knew that this guy is a big time mor0n. Look at his statements - neither consistent, nor clear. But he is a member of sonia gandhi's super cabinet. sample this:
"We ought to have a universal public distribution system from which everyone should be eligible to get food and if the very wealthy choose not to use it, then so be it. Or maybe just those people who own four-wheel vehicles should be excluded."
this guy is a shame and proof that people dont win such awards simply for their work, but for their connections.
he does not know some ground facts about why people are buying cars. take this example. to travel in bangalore from airport road leela palace to sarjapura road by public transport, you have the following option: 1. take auto. cost Rs. 80-100 2. take taxi. cost Rs. 150-200 3. take bus. cost Rs. 20-40 (depending on ac / non-ac)
Compare this with using personal diesel car to work. Most diesel cars give a huge mileage - as much as 25 kmpl. One litre petrol costs Rs. 75. Cost of the trip = Rs. 30
If this is the story in a city which provides excellent scale for public transport usage, you can imagine the situation in far flung areas. And this a z zole believes that all car owners are rich. what about autowallahs?

bengali always a commie ... always supporting taxpayer paid free distribution of food and stuff to all ... not based on work or merit
tax payers pay for everything ... rest get it all free

To use a personal Diesel car, you have to buy it in the first place. So you should have some money!
If he was wrong about this matter, does it mean he didn't do the work for which the award was given?

It appears that you do not know a thing about how poverty is estimated in India by the authorities !!
If you take the planning commission's latest criteria (by which about 28 % of the Indian population is deeded 'poor'), then every person or family owning even a bicycle might be excluded !!
You are yourself a big moron indeed !!
That is the only reason why you chose to comment without knowing a thing about what you are commenting on !
It would be no surprise to find that you have not understood much of what Dr. Binayak spoke about to this reporter !

Or temples would have been looted to finance churches, just like Temple lad was given to them?

Good point. In Tamilnadu, Hindu Religious Endowment Board does exactly this corrupt practice. The Government has no guts to take on Churches or Mosques but can take any temple along with the resources the past Kings/Princes provided to the temples with no protest from the masses. This is "Secularisem" according to our Government.
It all boils down to just one thing - economic disparity of alarming proportions.
In India atleast 85% of wealth rests with less than 15% of the people (aka booming economy). So one wonders how any economic policy can be drafted that matters to all? Which segment would they focus on? The wealthy 15% or the the measly 85%? The policies suitable for the 15% (i.e. 85% wealth) will not help the people at large and the policies designed to help the masses have no economic significance (like reducing fiscal deficit etc) since only 15% of country's wealth is influenced by these. unfortunately the disparity is increasing with time and no solution towards equitable distribution of the wealth seems to present itself in the near future. Rich gets richer and poor either stays same or gets poorer.
Articles like above only underscores the gravity of the problem at large. Hopefully, something sane will come out from the "gurus" very soon before the situation gets out of hand.

The reason the disparity is increasing is because "rule of law" is not enforced in an equitable manner.
It's well known that the reason wealth is accumulated by few is because of growth in "crony capitalism" which in other words means favouring some over the others and not allowing level playing field. This is obviously due to the corrupt practises of the rich and powerful.
Unless people realise that they have to unite and force the government to start applying rule of law in this country, things will not change. Hoping for miracles will not solve anything.
There is chronic corruption consequently chronic poverty famine malnutrition and poor development. The money is looted by the corrupt politicians and babus.for over 60 years In every election is contested with th sole aim of making money we are a failed democracy but secular!
