What a mentality, you must see the beauty of the monument and not what it symbolizes. After all you have shown your caste.

Mr. Obcpoor, This mahal is not a brahmin imperialist symbol because this mahal was built by RAJPUT(SHATRIYA)Kings with the imported ideas and architects from ITALY AND OTHER EUROPIAN COUNTRIES. This is also the hardwork of poor people(Slaves)of at that time.

@farooqui, raining is another matter and water by fire hoses is another. There is a vast difference in the pressure by which the water strikes the monument.

When I visited Hawa Mahal/Jaipur on 04/12/2011 Sunday - this same Hawa Mahal was looking quite faded and if the government has taken the steps to spruce it up a bit their efforts should be commended. Yes they can get experts from Japan who restored the Sistine Chapel but then the criticism would have been what a massive waste of money when so many starve in India?

Mind you, these very people who criticise have stashed loads n loads of money themselves in Swiss Banks & never spend any money out of it for public use but just throw mindless parties or organise hyped events with cheap filmfolks frolicking semi-naked.

So it's better we call in the Japanese experts. If you're in dobt, go to Ajanta-Ellora in Aurangabad & see for yourself how they've tried their bit to restore semblance & serenity to these World Heritage Sites after being leased to them. it's time we did to all such sites in India (priority - Taj.)

213-yr-old Hawa Mahal loses colour after wash
by Ajit Birdi on Jan 06, 2012 07:14 PM

It is understood that Hawa Mahal was painted some times back, perhaps it was this colour that got washed by jets.
Any way did not the authority have a foresight to test a small area first.
Brick are painted with special colour which lasts about 30 years before it is re painted.
To a reasonable extent this paint stands all kind of misuse that are thrown at it,(obviously things as acid etc are not tolerated by any paint).
Ordinary paint stands no chance under pressure wash.
