FDI in Retail

I don't think so. Actually Govt showed the courage to present it in this session. I'm sure the UPA managers were quire aware of the repurcations. States do have the liberty to opt or not to opt. One thing they could have done is to make it to 49% and then watch for 3-5 years and the increase to 51% if thigns get worked out.

ok but with 49% stake, will the so called big wigs pump in money to tap the large underutilized barren land areas? which is only possible when the areas are brought into the fold of green-zone. UPA managers are only trying to complicate the already weak economy. And economy would look up only when we start dis-burdening ourselves from the dependency of petrol and diesel, which is not happening. As a result we are having to succumb to the pressure from middle east as well as from the west leave aside China, and other small nations like even Sri lanka and Bangladesh. We cannot forget how the tamilians in Srilanka were tactfully eradiaceted by the power of Srilanka and help from Congress (aka Gandhi family)although the statement is out of context. In short even small nation like Srilanka has managed to bull doze India . Shameful, really!

FDI in Retail:
A few pointers!
(1) will FDI actually eliminate the middle men or is it going to add some more?
(2) will FDI bring the uninhabited barren lands into the cultivable sector? for eg. Rayalseema & Kalahandi areas of AP and Orissa
logically the only way to bring them into the cultivable sector is to connect them to water resources (by way of Canals from nearby rivers , interconnection of rivers, developing of catchment areas etc)
(3)AP has a system of Rayatu bazaar (started by Ex-CM Chandrababu Naidu, which was a huge success) wherein farmers were selling in the markets directly without the middlemen
(4)As for investments, we already have the likes of Reliance, Spencers, More and many more who have done reasonably well. But failed to push the barren/uncultivable land into irrigable sector.
(5) The need of the hour is to pump in money to get these uninhabited land into the irrigable part so that the produce can meet the demand of the huge population base of India (thanks to Congress!)
The exorbitant prices we pay is chiefly because of this gap!
The crooked politicians (mainly the Congress) have hidden this fact for too long.
So if the Govt. is actually interested in doing any good to the farmers and the huge population they should start projects like interlinking of rivers, etc which would increase the agricultural base of the country.
So gentlemen don't fall for the dirty politics of this country. trust your brains and strengths ONLY!

India was no.1 in retailing business
by ganapathi on Nov 30, 2011 02:41 PM

Since long India is no.1 in retailing business. Like very county of US has franchisee Mcdonald & kfc, every villaege of India had a community (example in Tamilnadu Chetiyar,Nadar)who succesfully doing retailing business with all dedication to serve the soceity.
India doesn't need Forign investment in Retailing else it will demolish many smal scale sellers earning sources.
Let Foreighners invest in other latest science and technology where we are yet to make R&D like nano technology etc.

Failed to understand why MMS becomes stubborn when it comes to benfitting Americans..We have seen Nuclear deal and now this..Is MMS fed up and want the govt to loose confidence vote than being asked by highcomand to vacate. Does it mean Rahul Gandhi becomming PM. Silence of Sonia Gandhi is amusing..In the end it looks like a well drafted plan to launch Rahul Gandhi as PM.. but congress should remember that
